Shredded Coles bag on a 2/0 baitholder hook and #3 Barrel sinker like boothy said they are dumb
But I would choose between Manns Stretch 10 Scarlett O'Hara or Crystal Shad, Nilsie Invincible 50mm Brown Mullet or Gene Larew 4" Minnow in Real Shad on 1/4 - 1/2 head. Brad |

The best ones for me have been the 3" Gulp minnows in Chartuse colour on a 1/8oz jig head. Bounced around on the flats in the arvy's after work. Man I miss the coast...
little gold and black 50mm hard bodied minnows worked a treat as well!!!

G'day Brad, would not have mattered which side of the line she was as these girls are too good at replentishing stocks to kill. I wish NSW would see the need to bring in a maximum size for some species like flathead. It is only recently that the local paper has changed from the kill and photo/weigh comp to a catch, pic and release one after many years of flack whenever a big dead flathead graced the pages.
Hopefully this one is still out there pumping out eggs. Would be nice to catch her again as she was 95cm in the pic and as yet I have never seen in person a confirmed meter flathead.

First post might as well be here!
I agree, flathead dumber than me at 4am and a belly full of beer!
I make my own lures for flatties..... 5" minnow style in a sandy brown 'custom' colour..... Also make 'em out of the softest plastic I can so they move about like mad on the drop!
Cheers

Most manns stretch 5,,,Berkley Fatdog PINK,,,,but the best by a long way is the BERKLEY 4" minnow in PUMKIN SEED,,because of the soft plastic my son & self won our yearly fishing comp(more than double second & we only fished for 8 months not the full 12,,,6/12 monthly comp wins(only in 8 of them),,,as a result we both scored a sponsership from BERKLEY,,,Gary

Bloke I know caught a 105cm in the Gold Coast seaway during the flathead classic a few years back, he reckoned it was like looking at an old horror movie when it finally surfaced and they saw the head emerging from the water

Biggest I caught was over 85, I can't even imagine how scary a 105 would look. Catch of a lifetime and should become more common down there soon, they are defiantly getting better!

I've only ever caught 1 flathead on a lure and it was a run of the mill bright orange double tailed soft plastic. It may have only been 20cm long but I'll claim it!
I have caught one on bread actually! Not a lure but thought I'd share haha |
