Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if anyone on here dip coats there lures with Primer / Filler, and if so the process they use.

1. Thinning ration of the Filler / Primer.

2. Amount of coats used.

3. Thinning ratio of Filler / Primer.

4. Do you rotate your dipped lures.

Any help appreciated as trying to learn with minimal mistakes.

Has my first crack at air brushing today, shitty drizzling rain didn't help with air moisture content, but at least got the base coats done. Does anyone white coat their lures first and then lightly sand before top coating.

Apologies for the noob questions.

PS : Just using Septone Primer / filler from supercheap as its only $20 a litre so If I get it wrong its not such a costly oop`s.

Hi steve i dip coat my lures. I use similar primer to the septone. Thin your primer 50% with thinners. I do 5 or 6 coats to block out the grain of the timber. I use a tall glass jar that i keep adding to and it accommodates longer lures. I tape my eyelets with masking tape so i dont get primer on them and once dipped i hang them on a simpe ironing or clothes rack from the cheap shop. It beats setting and cleaning spray gear and you can build your surfaces up to block out any imperfections. I find this way more convenient too for me anyway. I usually do 1 coat each day. Just give them a few days before you sand. Hope this helps. Regards Chris

Hi Chris,

Thanks for taking the time out to reply - much appreciated.

Have you ever tried dip coating the clear or is that a disaster in the making ?

I give them a good coat of white enamel after dipping...brings up a beautiful finish.

Mate that can be tricking especially when you start thinning your clear (acrylic) and hanging them up because your colours can run. I think a few of the guys here use that technique but have obviously mastered the method. I use a high solid 2 pac clear that i am very comfortable using. Just remember if you use a 2 pac clear stir very well and use your ppe. Most 2 pacs  have lots of nasties in them.

Hi TB,

Yeah you know me all too well !!!!

I think the tag you gave me all those years ago of " The Idea`s Man " will always be appropriate. If this shitty weather goes away so I can finish painting then you will receive something in the post very soon. Just finishing off the paint on my Flow Through Lures - Finally no more adjustments

And yep you guessed it, have another left field creation in the making - just cant help myself.

Catch up soon

Hi Chris, do you sand between coats when dipping the primer?
Cheers,
