Hi all. I've been meaning to post up how I do my eyes for a while. Someone may have already posted this method up but I'll post up anyway. I like a large eye located close to the lures nose just like a baitfish. The trouble i had was achieving a large eye that was consistently the same shape. Before I paint the colours on I give the lure coat of white gloss. Then I use adhesive dots in the desired size and stick into place to form the eye. You can buy these in many sizes off the internet for cheap. The undercoat becomes the white of the eye.

Then the colour goes over the top of your sticker. After you apply the colour use a pair of tweezers to carefully peel off the dot.

So hopefully when the dot comes off you have a nice crisp perfect white of the eye.

When it comes to do the pupil I like to use cotton buds because they soak up the paint and you can easily press as hard as you want to get a bigger pupil.
Couple of things to remember: Try to use a decent quality dot. Make sure you press the dot firmly down to avoid getting spray under the dot. In my experience the adhesive sticks to different colours and brands of paint in varying ways. Thin your black pupil paint and test on an old lure before applying and re thin if its starts going stringy. It may be cheating a bit but its certainly made my lure making easier and I hope it helps someone. Regards Chris

Nice work Chris.
I would be hopeless holding my hand steady to put the black dot on though. |

Thanks Chris for sharing how you are putting eyes on your lures. You have mastery the skill and they look fantastic. I tried before and the problem I had was perfect round shape of pupil.. For making pupil I used quality ear buds but it does not come prefect round as in your case and I do not thin the color as you do.
Does it mean that I need to thin the color suitably and do some practice to achieve prefect round pupil. Cheers, Raghubir |

Nice work Chris.
The eyes are one of the hardest things in luremaking in my opinion to get near perfect. Cheers, Danny. |

I have to agree with you Daniel no other feature on a lure has more of an effect than when you put eyes on it. There location, size and color in order of importance my opinion. 3D eyes look better but there is something about painted eyes that keeps me painting them and I have tried so many methods, and still screwing them up
