Hi All,
As I have been doing quite a bit of lure casting from the bank in some pretty heavily timbered water, the inevitable getting snag does still P%$S me off, so have been using the below home made de snagging assistant, and its been working really well so thought might as well share it. This one is using a size 4 sinker, which I first drill two holes through above the centre line, and then enlarge the hole through the sinker as per the image below. I then cut along the lateral line until reach the centre. Then slightly bevel each end of the sinker to assist gliding over the leader knot. Then I have been attaching it to the line by way of two light gauge split pins. Yes it is an extremely basic set up, but I have been allowing it to slide down to my diving lure and then just gently flicking the rod tip which seems to be doing the trick in dislodging the lure, its not failsafe as nothing rarely is, but it has definitely reduced lure losses. Anyway was bored so just thought would share it. And to top it all off, Posted this and drove to river, first log I chose to stand on and cast from and after 6 failed attempts right at my feet, this nice yella finally decided to munch my FT70 - Ignore hand paint its from my personal use pile. Cheers Steve |

Nice yellowbelly.
My first Tackle Back lure retriever I used on my first snagged lure using a thin gauge venetian blind cord. Jiggled it around trying to dislodge the lure I ended up snagging that and I broke the cord trying to get it back. Lure was a dolls eye Boomerang. I have since "broken" a few by having the pig tails bend off repairing them with stainless steel screw eyes. This little champ is a whole lot cheaper then the Tackle Backs.

Hi Martin,
Have experimented with different weight sinkers and found size 4 is about as high as I can go before belly in the line can be an issue. But its cheap as and simple to carry in your pocket Cheers |

Thanks Guys,
It`s very simple and looks feral ( Kinda like Me ), but it works and anyone can make one. Shed is full of little items to make fishing simpler. Cheers |

Racken Fracken, Wont be doing much of anything for awhile now. Went for another quick fish Wednesday evening, 1st snag I targeted yielded another nice Yella. Thought to myself this FT70 should be banned as its producing most trips now. Could see a nice snag pile that I though should hold a cod, so took on the extremely steep bank and failed, lost footing dislocated ankle, then it relocated itself and then broke. Well all plastered up and now stuck at home - bummer Steve |

Great idea about the retriever Steve, bummer about the ankle - ow! (please let me know next time you plan to do it, just finished an all day first aid course yesterday, it would be a good chance to practice my practical!) I used to have a lure retriever, last I knew it was VERY high up in a tree at Monduran Dam, along with several other decorations - was it two lures up there with it Alistair? (some things we should never forget) |

Thanks Guy`s,
Don't plan on doing it again anytime soon - the novelty wore off very quickly, unfortunately the pain meds wore off even quicker. It had to happen one day. Plenty of time to continue with my 3D designing of other prototypes, just no field testing for awhile. Cheers Steve |
