Hi,
haven't made any new lures and due to my procrastination the novel proceedings have been to refurbish the pile of mistakes. Figured it would be refreshing and funny to start a thread on the upsidaisy Lures and shop blunders.

Curious to see what other lure makers do with the rejects and how they salvage the items that appear too far gone?

For whatever reason I keep the blemished lures in some festering vessel to be averted from my OCD gaze. All good intentions lie in wait, generally they just collect dust and the webs of shop pets such as Toby here.

Today these junkers will be transformed into my own personal gems.

I know at least one lure maker who puts an awful lot of prototypes and experiments in the fire place, as he thinks collectors who want such things are a bit insane.

I usually modify them a bit and throw them in my tackle box. Surprisingly, a lot of these (botch jobs) actually catch a lot of fish!!!

Ducks - that goes a bit far, granted the one offs and mistakes are probably valuable to someone. Just like misprinted currency, those scrapped lures could be worth a fortune depending on the maker. Everything has a hidden selling point I guess?

Fyssche Salmon = love to see these botched jobs if you care to share.

Just finished rough sanding these after sealing up the holes with epoxy. Had a spot of trouble with one and it took a bit of finesse to patch up. Even after Re-detailing there's a slight interstices that will mean trouble down the road if something should seep in. I'll put some photograph up when I get a bit further with these.

I think there is possibly a couple aspects to it.
He says he can't sell them since they are not right for whatever reason.
So maybe he could give them away? But then you risk seeing them later on ebay for an absurd price as rare / one offs.

Personally I love when people muck up the paint part.
Some of my best lures are freebies I got from some of the best lure makers in the business because they weren't happy with the finish.
It helps that the guys know I'm not likely to resell anything given to me, and that I'll fish everything - but I'll fish it even harder if it's got a smudged signature or a glue mark on the bib or a bubble in the clear coat LOLLOLLOL

That’s it Ducks and can’t agree more. I was fishing with that same maker and he told me the lure he was using was a second. I looked all over that lure and couldn’t find the smudge he referred to. Even after he pointed it out to me I couldn’t see it but he has set the bar high for himself and that’s his prerogative so good on him. . I don’t mind using seconds as they are not going to last long or they are going to be chewed up anyway
