Hi all . . .
Well these magnificent books appeared after a conversation with an old guy who was holding a garage sale when we got talking about fly fishing. Both books were purchased by this guy about 30 years ago second hand and are complete w/ original dust jackets The Holy Grail for those who know how rare these have become; John Hedge - Trout Fishing - A season on the Monaro - First Edition 1968 Found this in the middle of the book - And the 1962 First Edition of Trout Fishing in New South Wales The reverse covers; Group shot; MXB |

Books like those should be kept for the next generation to read. I've read the Fishing In NSW one - either my old man or uncle has it and I love reading the old books. Partly to see how far we've come (silk fly lines, twisted gut leader anyone?) and partly to read the history and some of the writers tell a great story.
John Sautelle is another great righter from times past, and I have a couple of old fly fishing and tying books like Fly Tying by 'FADG' Griffiths and Trout Fishing in Aust and NZ by M.E. McCausland. Steve |

Thanks flyonline for appreciating and I agree that these types of books are to share with next generation.
You mentioned . . . . A couple more older classics from the old champion; John Sautelle First Edition with Dust jacket; And the Tasmanian classic by Dr Robert Sloane; This one is a fairly recent publication but one of the best books on Aussie fly patterns; MXB |

I reckon I could just about quote whole sections of that book My old man has that and it was probably the first fishing book I ever read, along with Don Gilmour's Trout Fishing in Australia. Particularly like the story of John fishing in NZ (Taupo delta I think) in the dark/rain and getting smashed while everyone else on the houseboat was boozing it up. And the one that got away, that he caught by hand a few minutes later Steve |

I picked some old trout books from a Canberra book fest at a race track with reference to " Monaro" when visiting family. They were aged but not sure how old.
