Hi all I need a bit of help
I have to travel up to Tawoomba in a few weeks so I decided to take the slide on and take my time, have a bit of a look around both going and coming. Nothing hard about that, probably call in and see my sister in Marybourough, and also need to slip up a bit out of Rocky. I have never fished any of this area and was planing to chuck a line in the back. This is where it starts to get hard. Usually when we travel with the slide on the boat follows behind. This over the years has often proven to be a waste of effort and a great deal of diesel and usually accompanies comments like ya should have been here a month ago there was no wind and the fish were jumpin in the boat. So my question for those that know is Should I bring my boat and spend some time enjoying what the area has to offer or should I leave it home. I will be in Tawoomba the last week of September probably do Rocky and be looking for fish early October. Cupla questions: What time do the small Marlin come on the flats behind Fraser Island and is it best to run from Harvey Bay or Bundy???? I am starting to develop an interest in Barra. I have heard that Qld has a closed season on Barra? is that correct and if so when? If not closed,is this a reasonable time for Barra? can I start looking for them around Rocky?or should I leave the boat home and do it at a better time As I said Lost without a Clue Any help appreciated Thanks Kimo |

Should I bring my boat and spend some time enjoying what the area has to offer or should I leave it home. I would bring the boat Kimo, there are plenty of dams to fish on the way to Toowoomba.
I will be in Tawoomba the last week of September probably do Rocky and be looking for fish early October. Cupla questions: What time do the small Marlin come on the flats behind Fraser Island and is it best to run from Harvey Bay or Bundy???? I'm not sure of the time of year but the small blacks are active now in FNQ. I think they run later in the year around Hervey Bay. I would leave from Hervey Bay or better still River Heads not far from HB as you would have the shelter of Fraser Island in southerly or easterly winds. I am starting to develop an interest in Barra. I have heard that Qld has a closed season on Barra? is that correct and if so when? If not closed,is this a reasonable time for Barra? can I start looking for them around Rocky?or should I leave the boat home and do it at a better time . Closed barra season in Qld on the eastern side is mid day, last day of October. Impoundment barra have no closed season. The best time for barra I believe is now to the closed season as the water starts to heat up and they get hungry wanting to feed up getting ready to breed. Barra have been found for quite a few years now as far south as the Gold Coast but really become a proposition from Gladstone north. The Fitzroy River at Rocky has a great reputation for metre plus barra. If Hooknose reads this then he can give more insight for this area. While you are at Rocky, go to Emu Park near Yepoon and see Ray Murphy (take your dollars as you CANNOT, and I repeat CANNOT leave without some of his great lures).

PS Kimo, on the way to Rocky you will drive past Monduran Dam - arguably the best barra dam south of Rocky.

you will pass some good cod dams on the way, all depends on which way your going to travel. COPETON, PINDARI, GLENLYON, COOLAMUNDA. september/october is a good time to view the metre plus cod along the dam wall at GLENLYON DAM........mick

Thanks Guys
I guess the first step is breakfast in bed for the wife tomorrow and suggest taking the boat. Followed by a bit of googling all the places suggested. I did not know Ray Murphy was at or near Yepoon I have about 6 or 8 of his lures and have to agree he dose a very nice job will try to make the time to take a look Again Thanks to all |
