One thing I have trouble freehand sharpening some lathe chisels, so I've come up with an alternative, which helps sharpen chisels more consistently without the use of expensive grinding equipment, it is not foolproof, you still have to watch what you are doing to get consistent results.

The whole idea is to place the chisel on the tool rest and move the post up/down, also the chisel in/out until you find the right place to grind, secure the post, then lightly grind the desired angle. In the photo I have placed a sheet of white paper to help see  the angle that the chisel is sitting on the grinding wheel. The clamp is only used for the photo purposes, but will use the idea when adjusting the grinding post.

For improvements at a later date I will build a new caddy for the grinder, with an aluminum base slotted as to move the grinder forward as the wheel wear a feature I may never use but good to think in advance (wood not a good idea). New tool rest using larger angle iron for more chisel stability then shifting the jig left for more area on both sides of the grinding wheel. Safety wings on the tool rest for added safety. Replace the current grinding wheel for a white stone. The whole jig will continually be improved as I find materials.

The project slapped together in one hour using scraps that were sitting under the bench. Hope this post is of use for those who do not have a sharpening system going.

Alternative idea for those who have older solid grinders, think you will get the drift without me explaining it.

Thanks for looking.

You have your way. I have my way. As for the right way, the correct way, and the only way, it does not exist.
