Angus & Rob, we have created a new subforum in the luremaking section about 3d printed lures and have moved your 2 topics to there as well.
Please feel free to post info in this section, and anyone else who are interested in 3d printing as I think it is an interesting method which will grow in popularity.

very interesting thread ,how small could you make lures using the printer ?,i have a hell of a job getting bib slots perfect in my 45mm trout model ,i think the printer might be the go for a moresymetrical blank for molding?

Resolution is around 0.1mm so i would say any size in a lure is possible.
Cheers, Rob. |

Hey Rob,
No pics of the GT's unfortunately, the only one we actually got to the boat I watched sail away with my lure in its mouth as the clip I was using pulled. I understand what you mean though, I have never caught them before and to be honest we weren't targeting them, we just came across them one day. The largest we had to chase with the boat as it nearly spooled me. Was great stuff. Other than that we mostly got barra and mangrove jack,
This barra was caught on a lure made from Polymaker PolyMax PLA and was painted by my daughter. This was a last minute print because I decided to see how well it would hold up compared to the ABS lures. The PolyMax prints great but I am not convinced yet that the halves hold aswell as if the plastic was ABS. Would certainly recommend the filament, just not sure yet as for my lures, more testing required. This mangrove jack was caught on a lure printed in ABS and painted by my daughter. The ABS is great and superglue in particular bonds very well to it. On the testing I did the glue was not the weak point, I could actually delaminate the lure before separating the glue. Hey Jas, Don't have too many left from the trip as I gave most of them away to the people who we were staying with and I didnt take any pics before leaving. These are all thats left, All three printed in ABS by me but as I didn't have time my father painted and top coated. Takes some work to get things right but I do have a tendency to over complicate things. Hey Chris, I originally purchased my printer for exactly that, I wanted to be able to print a mold master and go from there. I was having difficulty getting the carved masters symmetrical. I decided though if I was going to go to the effort I would just cutout the middle man and just print them to then paint and finish. As for the size, Rob is referring to the layer height, as for actual size of the lure you would not have any issues printing something 45mm, I have a small lure on the go at the moment, it has a body length of 40mm, see below, This will print no worries. If every you needed a mold master printed I would have no hesitation in printing for you, all you would need is to provide the file for printing. Angus

Thanks Martin. Thanks P.J. With all the rain we've had it took a lot longer than I'd hoped to get out and chase one.
