Yep, love those old patterns.
Black ones are cool too! Nothing better in dark or dirty water. |

Are we thinking fakes? DO we know if these were part of the Bucket Kads which have been discussed? I hope not for Les's sake. Quite a similar towpoint and same new oval rings to the fake signed as Newell Kad I have.

Came across this thread while trying to find some history on a Newell, wondered what was so special about the colours and know where I saw the bucket picture but I can no longer search on that forum. A couple of them look like the lures out of it. |

This is the picture Alistair, Have seen it a couple of times now on the internet.
Some think once a picture is posted on the internet it's Private, sadly the big WWW is not like that so if I happen to see this and save it......is this a crime ? |

Sadly Manny but many of these lures are believed to be fakes. Made I believe after Peter's death and sold for a high $$$ amount to an unsuspecting buyer. There are others about as well which appear to be made by the same person. Were they made just for profiting off collectors or to damage the Newell name or for other reasons?, I don't know. The former seems to have been achieved but the latter was not and if for other reasons I guess we may never know. In this game though, buyer definitely needs to be aware and is why this site is important for collectors to provide some protection from people who may wish to target them.

That is a REAL shame because Peter was such a nice fellow. I mainly had bass sized Newells and never had any of the larger ones. except some scorpions. I was fortunate to have a friend who had some originals and now they are mine. I got them before I joined L/Lovers. I have gotten the bug as we all do once we start collecting. Its fantastic to have the lure lover member support to help sort out the SCHONKS who are definitely out there. The support from members has been just GREAT.

Slightly off topic can we run a poll on who actually was peter newells best mate , because by all reports on this site everyone was , and doesn't have a bad thing to say about him unlike lots of the story's I have heard

To what end? What have you heard? I know he was no saint, far from it but I think most Collectors of his lures focus on the lures themselves and his ability to be innovative in design. IMHO he was a leader in his field where many have followed in his footsteps and some maybe are taking things to a new level whilst others, through their own actions have struggled in his shadow. |

Well said Alistair, I meet Peter through the course of bussiness in the late 80s, I would never have called him my best mate and i never had a issue with him, I found him pretty fair for a policeman. I didn,t even know he had passed away and was quite embarrassed after being in the gulf for four years to find out here that he had done so. There can be no question of his ability to read fish and design lures that worked. He will always be one of the Australian forfathers of lure making Their are very few others who can stand in this class or his shadow in this format.
