A pic of Matty's fish from Sunday morning .
Whilst i cut fire wood he's landing monsters without me  Shocked
Luckily a couple blokes were within coowee to aid him in the landing of the fish .
27lb 7oz was the uncleaned weight .
Matty stunned !

There may be an upcoming article on the capture as it was truly a miracle on 4lb braid and 6lb leader .
Not to mention the fast water with the river in high flow !

Wild fish from the Tyenna River Jas Thumbs Up
No stocking has ever occurred in the local rivers here and all are from natural recruitment .
The first trout were introduced to the Southern Hemisphere in the Plenty River which joins the Derwent and the Tyenna is a tributary of the Derwent .

Tyenna Dave,

This doesn't look like a wild fish.  The state and size of the caudal fin suggests this was a hatchery fish.

Probably an escapee or stocked brood fish.

What a shame it was killed.

With 9lb of eggs, imagine how many others trout it could have produced if returned to the water?

Cheers
Phil B.

i have heard the Tyenna has more fish in it than any other trout waters in Australia Phil ,and given that there are also more big fish in there and they are not easy to catch i guess taking this one would'nt have a lot of impact.the clipped caudal is unusual ,there is a hatchery near Mt field which is on a tributary of the Tyenna so i guess its possibly an escapee?.either way its a fantastic fish
that's no how ye make porridge!

thats crazy ,a fish like that in a small body of water ,i fished that river for 20 years and never saw anything anywhere near that size ,my best was 4 half pound on grass hoppers.that is an exceptional catch too on 4 lb gear congrats .brings back great memories walking the banks down thru the poplar trees and up under the township banks flicking hoppers into the pools and back  eddies ,me on one side dad on the other .
it a lot better world if you just smile
