Anyone used this for lures before? I was given a small piece a couple of years back by the Timber Slab factory at Mullumbimby to try and just got around to it. Seems easier to carve a bit more than cedar and when 2 blanks (Cedar and Amoora) are floated it does not sit any deeper in the water. Has a nice colour as well for a nude I think. Specs below.

Alistair,
Not seen any so far to play with, but looking at the specs, Red Cedar is around 540-560 kg/m3 (FMFM) Should be okay if it holds glue/screws alright. Brad |

Says it glues well so should be ok then. Guess I will give it a crack and see then.

If it's Pacific Maple, I used a lot of it in the 90's and was similar to Meranti but sanded a lot smoother! Cheers Ian.

Sounds like the stuff, pretty much what I have read about it on the net with wood workers descriptions. Carves a bit better than cedar but has a similar feel. Why did you stop using it? supply issues or found something better? I need the floation in some lures I am making due to a heavy bib so beech is out and I cant find any Jeluton locally at the moment.

Had some parts turn up at work and the crate was made from Pacific maple. Couldn't find any more so I switched to Meranti which was available at Hardwarehouse. Was also using white Beech but had trouble with paint not adhering to it!

Can we see a pic of the timber? Sounds like a similar density to Red cedar which is my favourite cabinet timber.
