    Posted: 05 Feb 2011 at 9:18am

For some time now I’ve been contemplating posting up my Newell collection.Whilst i’ve collected lures for around 20 years it’s only been approximately 3 years that i’ve seriously gone in search of Newells.I aim to continually grow the collection when opportunity allows and will consider trading off some of the doubles if suitable trades are offered.I have labeled all pics with the model name and approximate size where applicable and i can provide more accurate measurements if and when required.I’m not sure exactly how many Newell’s I have as not all were present for the the drawn out photo shoot but no exact lure appears twice. My apologies for some of the pics if they are a little dark or out of focus but my photography skills are limited.Well hope you enjoy and feel free to ask any questions or add any coments. Brolly.

An awesome effort to arrange, photograph, edit for posting and then getting them up let alone the collecting side.

Well done Mike there are certainly a few return visits posted here.

Though I would have preferred if you'd stuck wtith tormenting Boothy with the red and blacks at the front rather than some of the old style yellow and blacks especially in the scorpions.

Again thanks for taking the time to post your Newells, wonderful stuff.

hey i know this has probably been mentioned somewhere,
but, what is the go with the eyes on the classic woods.
when would the metallic red eyes have been in production and did Peter go back to black and white after or were they the last to be done,

Cheers

Brolly,

out standing mate and I know your picture skills and this alone was a huge effort to get this all on computer Tongue

The Newell's are just simply stunning and thanks for sharing all these great lures for us all to see. Clap

I know I and many other will refer back to this post many times to answer our own questions and or doubts about some lures we see in our ventures.

I myself have seen some very special ones in amongst your lot here elsewhere and can now put the missing pieces together.

Thanks Thumbs Up

ClapClap  Thanks Mike for taking the time to put all that together (not to mention the overtime at work to aquire many of themLOL). I expect these pics will be used many many times in the future by us Newell collectors when it comes to lure Id so apart from a big personal acheivement putting them together it will be a great tool for the members here. I expect to come back to this post and have a good gander every now and then.

Where is the wide angle group shot of you making an angle shape in them on the groundLOL

Thanks Brolly for sharing your colection with us at Lurelovers.
I know the amazing amount of work that has gone into your passion.
As a memorium to Peter it is Profound and looking towards the future your collection will be called apon many times for archival purposes.I am sure if they had an Order of Australia for collectors that contribute to helping others you would recieve one.
Well done.

STUNNING!!!!!!!!!

Still scrolling through, still looking, enlarging and looking again and again....

Pleased I had the privilege of discussing these beauties with you yesterday, finding out where they came from, the stories behind your collection and your passion for Newell's.

I enjoy your visits Mike discussing lures, their intricate details, the history, checking out their swimming action in the pool and overall discussing the finer points of lure making and lures in general.

I am amazed again on your vast knowledge base of all lures, when you leave I know my knowledge base has increased

As to the mystery Lure, and putting our minds together working on an answer, don't worry mate its still in one piece at this stage, but very interesting........

Cheers

G'day Ben,I have lures here from around 2002 that certainly have metalic eyes and whilst i don't know how long before this Peter started experimenting with or painting lures with metalic eyes but it may have been around 2000? I would think Wazza would have a far better idea as he may of been still operating the tackle shop somewhere around or during the start of the metalic eye era? Brolly

Thanks Mike, your collection is nothing short of incredible Clap StarStarStarStarStar

that must have been a big job to get them all organised in the photo's to share with us! Thumbs Up (although I bet it was fun too!)

There are quite a few variations/models you have there that I was unaware of, I'll be coming back to your post repeatedly to learn more about these awesome lures - as the old saying goes, "the more you know, the more you know you don't know!"

Hi Brolly I have been away and just caught your post and collection (WOW), There is one or two that would fill gaps in my collection very nice.
I collect one of each variation in models etc but must admit they look stunning when grouped in multiples like that.
To answer the above question about silver red eyes Peter was experimenting with it at the time of the gower partnership (early 90's on the Coati inparticularly) but went too it for the majority of his lures after that but that is not a true indicator of age of black and white eyed lures as he would use that still on occasion if he thought it suited the colour scheme more.
