I was wondering what tool you guys use to cut your s/s wire with, mine always has crappy edges after cutting with side cutters or pliers.
It always needs to be cleaned up if making omegas etc?
Cheers,

Age old problem Steve, I haven't found a set of cutters that do a perfect cut but they may be out there! I just touch the ends up on a sanding disc.

Hello Steve.
I've used a lot of cutters to cut a lot of wire in the past and I've never seen a perfect square cut. It's because of the way the wire is cut. It has to be compressed (ie distorted) before any shearing will occur. The softer the wire, the more distortion.
It's like trying to cut a plasticine log with a knife. You never end up with an end that hasn't distorted to a degree.
While saying that, there are good and bad cutters. I have a set of pliers that cut like a set of tin snips. They're about the cleanest cut I've seen. They're like those below.
Cheap side-cutters and pliers are the worst. The less force you need to cut the wire, the cleaner the cut will be.

Cheers Scott

Hello again.
Something that people could try is instead of trying to cut the wire in one snip sort of action, try pulling the cutters together slightly (so a mark is left on the wire) and then rotate the cutters around the wire. It should leave a groove around the wire. The deeper the groove, the nicer the eventual cut.

Cheers Scott

I use tin snips...gives a pretty clean cut on wire.
