About 20 years ago I purchased 8 or 9 Deception Shrimp lures directly from Paul Kneller before he moved up north. I told him they were for a trip to Windemere, so he kindly said he would send me the proven fish catching colours. The first one I tied on was catching fish, so it was the only one I used on that trip.

All of the patterns I still have appear common, but some of the colours don't seem to appear in colour charts or posts in various forums.

Can anyone enlighten me (Mr Kneller??) if there were there any colours that were produced in limited numbers or any particular colours that would be considered as "holy grails"?

Cheers in advance for your thoughts.

Mick.

Hi Mick,

Keen to see your collection, and always interested in new colours that pop up.

If you post photos, I recommend that you do it in the NSW lures section under the Deception lures subheading. The only reason being that this post is in the for sale section, and unless they're for sale it would be great to keep all Deception lure discussions in an area that can be followed for future references.

Looking forward to discussing the colours you have,

Cheers,

Danny.

Thanks Danny.

I'd like to gather some information to see what I have before I "show and tell" or post for sale.

Admins, please feel free to move my post to NSW Lures/Deception Lures as suggested.

Mick.

I guess it's hard to gauge how rare these colours are without seeing them. Some Shrimp colours that weren't on colour charts were still reasonably common when compared to others that were done in very limited runs or for Paul's own fishing trips for himself and mates.

I'd say that standard colours on charts may make up the 'bulk' of Deception Shrimp, but the colours and patterns that aren't on the chart may make up most of the 'variation'

Paul correct me if I'm way off here. Just an observation from my own collection.

Cheers,

Danny.

Chicken or the egg Mick, I think you will get the most accurate info your after by posting the pics. As Danny said, Paul put out a huge variation of colours not on the charts and the guys would need to see what you have to let you know if you have diamonds or just gems.

Hi Mick. Yep a couple of rarer colours in there. The three rarest in my opinion would be the second, third and fourth when going from the top down. Of those three, I'd say the third one is the rarest, followed by the second and then the fourth. Paul or Rob correct me if I'm wrong there.

These top four also look to be omega clip twisted wires, which I think were the last of the twisted wires before the zincalume skeleton frame came in, which is what you have in the bottom three in shallow bibbed versions.

Cheers,

Danny.
