Deceptions of the month

After the success of Tony's post showing numerous lures of Trevor's and the excitement experienced by the collectors who had picked them up, I thought it might be time to start a similar thread for Deceptions. Tony I realise I am taking the success of your idea here and running with it, so thankyou for your permission.   

Either throughout or at the end of each month I'll be posting up some of the Deceptions that I've been lucky enough to pick up. I encourage other Deception collectors to do the same - it doesn't matter if they are ones you have had in your collection for a while.

So, to kick off this thread here are some wonderful arrivals to see out the end of winter. The majority of these would not have been made available to me without the heads up from a couple of members on here, therefore a big thankyou to Alistair, Jesse and Sel.

First off are two fantastic Scampi models that boast a couple of the nicest patterns I've seen. Of particular note is the orange lace pattern that has been mentioned in depth in the "race for lace" thread.







Next is that awesome Cherax picked up for me by Sel at the Expo. It's an incredible looking lure so in case you haven't seen the other post dedicated to it, here it is




Here are four new Shrimp for the collection, which include a through wire (Whitmore) in the lace over frog pattern, a twisted wire brown trout varient, and two shallow Skeleton Shrimp - one in the very popular red rings with white eyes and the other in the lace over frog pattern. While we are on this topic, if Paul or Rob could confirm the correct name (if there ever was) for this pattern where lace was sprayed over the frog/coachdog, I'd be grateful to know.










Last is a top little Basswood in a very vibrant orange and yellow. These are harder to come by than a lot of Paul's other lures so I was very happy to pick it up through a trade.

Now I know you and Meghan Trainor are "all 'bout that lace, 'bout that lace, no treble"  but I have always liked the Sardinops diamond scale pattern.

Paul I was glad to get a name for these two colours so thought I'd post them up. I'm guessing the green ones are "Green Pizza"?

The green ones pictured include a twisted wire omega clip Shrimp, a twisted wire omega plate Nipper, and a Hornet. The brown ones include a CX50 Cherax, a Whitmore Shrimp, an omega plate twisted wire Shrimp, a shallow Skeleton Shrimp, and a shallow omega plate screw eye Nipper.

The only Kneller I own, Paul gave this to me years ago, it was hanging in his shop behind the counter. Told me he made several for a barra trip to Weipa that never happened, called them Sardinops Barra.

Just to clarify, were the Sardinops a Deception lure or a Big River lure? I have always thought of them as Deception but am not 100% sure.

You little beauty - now you're talkin' lads. Three absolutely stunning examples of a wonderful model made by Paul.

Here's a twisted wire skinny that really stands out for me. The bronzy gold scales over brown through a uniform lace (that actually looks remarkably like an elongated saw-tooth pattern) produces a stunning effect that I think would look very much at home next to some of the unique colour creations on Paul's Jew lures.



Keep posting these lures boys, it's great to see them out there and getting the attention they deserve.

So a bit of time has gone by and I've been very lucky to add a few more of Paul's old lures to the collection. Quite a few are on the rarer side so I'm pumped to post some up.

First is this Series 2 Deception Yabby. Any Yabby is hard to find, let alone one in a rarer coach dog pattern, so I'm pretty happy.




These four Whitmore Shrimp are some of the rarer Whitmores models, especially the bright yellow and black coachdog/frog pattern. I'll never swim it, but I reckon it would look awesome tracking back up to the rod tip with a big golden football tight at it's heels.






Some awesome mint twisted wire staple towpoint Shrimp have come my way over the last little while. They are a more than welcome addition, particularly the full pink version which I haven't seen around too much.





Two or three of these aren't new to the collection, but I think they look great all together. Included from the back is a CX70 screw eyelet Cherax, 3 Shrimp (twisted wire staple tow point, Whitmore through wire staple tow point, and a Whitmore through wire 80 slot), and a screw eyelet omega plate shallow Nipper. These are as classy as any Deception out there I think.




Last up are two deep bibbed Skeleton Shrimp. The green one is the rarer cousin of the extremely popular orange Nepean pattern.

Picked up these deceptions recently

Something rare on the small end of his lures, a surface walk the dog Palemon made for Bream after (memory fuzzy here) Bushy or Starlo but I think Bushy broke the bib on one and then proceeded to catch a few Bream on it after previous poor fishing. Paul made a few up for him after this success.

Nice one Alistair. What's the writing (if it is writing) on the side of the lure?

Not quite Deception I know - Pauls Big River Kelpie's , Pup's and Kidney Slappers are still a nice range of lures to collect and do not require, for now at least, big outlays of $$$ to put a collection together. I added this little non standard semi nude to the collection yesterday.

Pretty close Alistair, the line wrapped around the front hook and while flicking the lure with the rod in an attempt to untangle it a good bream nailed it, so they asked me to make some Palaemon Dogs. Sorry to have missed ya the other day mate, only get into the shop a few times a week these days, catch up for a brewski up at Ipswich 

Paul, nice to here you're going to Ipswich this year, going to use you as a postie , I seem to miss you also when passing through Maclean.
