Hi Danny, here are a pair of Deception gems that I have picked up over the last couple of weeks:
The first is a mid series Yabby that was part of the morph from Series 1 to Series 2 - looks more like a Series 2 but had a distinctly flattened back and squared off tail. This Yabby also has a brittle acrylic bib which was due to a erroneous batch of bibs supplied to Paul and evidenced by the yellow colouration. This Yabby was made in 1993 and also has hand painted eyes that are possibly the very first eyes that Paul painted after the early pin eyes. I do have this same acrylic bibbed Yabby with pin eyes - Paul has confirmed this is the transition point from pin eyes to painted eyes. The second lure I genuinely sweated over on ebay a couple of weeks ago - fortunately it was surrounded by cutlet bone shrimp for auction which I was hoping would distract buyers from this ultra rare Deception Whitmore Shrimp. For years Paul mentioned that there was a hybrid Whitmore Shrimp made in a very small run that had the flattened bottom of the cutlet bone and the rounded top of the Whitmore Shrimp - call it a transition model - this is the second one I have ever seen surface and the suicide bid on eBay secured it. Been a few more that I can pull out, but these 2 are special in the Collection. Cheers Rob |

Sorry to raise your hopes Danny, I only have two Deceptions left, 'Nippers', Rob got the other Sardinops I had .
Taking one down to the Expo as a trader if interested, the red one below in the pic, think I've had them years, can't remember where I sourced them. Is timber and has screw-in type hook eyelets, still have the backing card also, tiny little thing, not much good for barra fishing . Seaweed.

Hi Seaweed. Any Deception is nice to see. Those Nippers would have fished very well up at Jindabyne today. We run the Tacspo versions a bit and they have drawn hits each time we've swum them. Thankyou for posting.
Cheers, Danny. |

Rob, some very nice examples of the morphing series 2 Yabby and Whitmore Shrimp. It appears no one saw them either

I've greatly enjoyed viewing these special Deceptions, thanks Danny and others, and thought it only appropriate to make a small contribution myself. This special edition boxed set made up by Paul consists of a standard set of 10th Anniversary Shrimps together with the original prototype of the rejected 6th colour that did not make the final cut for production. Being somewhat the "black sheep" of the set this sixth lure is presented on a bed of Ebony shavings.
Enjoy, Col |

Beautiful set Col. Appreciate you sharing them, and I'm sure others who have hopefully seen them do too.

Great set of 10th Anniversary Shrimps Col and can I ask what's laying under the last shrimp to the right side please? I can see the rest has wood shavings.

Hi Dave,
Paul sacrificed a piece of Ebony to create those black shavings. Maybe a little extravagant but I thought it worked beautifully. Thanks for your interest. Regards, Col |

G'day Paul.
I'm pretty sure they'd sat in a collection for quite a while. Bit of a polish and they've come up near mint. Graeme, I too like the offset eyes. Paul and Rob will correct me if I'm wrong - the offset eyes appear to be a telltale for a shallower (around 5mm) bib slot that therefore increases the overall length of the lure by 5mm. Cheers, Danny. |

Here are a couple more while I'm at it. 2 beautiful old twisted wire Cherax picked up this week. It's always great to purchase lures off friendly people, and I was stoked when they arrived today.
Paul these are obviously later than the couple of through wire Cherax models you made, which I'm guessing started around '94 or early '95. So would you date these as being built in '95 sometime? Cheers, Danny. |

Excellent thanks Paul. They're a welcome addition. I think I actually prefer the look of the slightly longer/skinnier neck on these older models. Just need to find more now.
Cheers, Danny. |

Really happy to add a couple more old Deceptions this week.
This shallow ripple back Scampi is a beautiful old lure. And this lace patterned twisted wire Cherax (although not a 100% match) looks at home with the Shrimp and Scampi. I think those 3 orange lace examples are extra special due to their hangers. The Scampi and Cherax are obviously the rarer twisted wire versions, but the Shrimp is also special due to the skeleton frame being made of stainless steel as opposed to the much more common zincalume. Cheers, Danny. |

I had this lure for quite while until it was finally ID as a lure of Pauls, pre Deception era but worthy of this post I think. Now resides with Rob as it should

Graeme, a whole lot of lace colour runs when lined up together look ridiculously good.
Kris they are incredible. They sprout up right next to the magic mushrooms, but you need to be able to speak Pixie to translate the map to the next ones Awesome retro Kneller there Alistair. Agree.....it should reside at Deception Land..... Cheers, Danny. |

My contribution this month is a "Red Claw" complete with nippers. This lure was crafted by Paul in 2013 from Mangrove timber and painted in natural colours.

Yes Alistair .... stunning find and as you say pre-dates the Deception Series 1 Yabby which probably makes in 91/92ish ? Interestingly I've only ever found one other Deception, being an early Shrimp, that was painted using that same lace pattern ? Cheers Rob

I had to hold that one in my hand to actually remember making it, about October 91 I reckon And yep did a few Shrimp very similar to that, I reckon Rob's one would have come from a mate of mine, Kevin Maybury who liked that colour. As a side note that bit of lace was stolen from the hem of another curtain in the house we were renting, never quite hit the dizzy heights of the oval shaped lace I pinched from the other spare room though

Guess finding Paul's same curtain material on a very early cutlet bone shrimp shouldn't have been a surprise Cheers Rob |
