i have been making larger surface lures of late and i think they will be better suited for full thru wire ,i have drilled the shorter poppers(120mm) with a long drill ,getting it lined up is a task as naturally the drill bends under pressure as it gets further into the timber .making it pop out in not a central position at other end ,i drill from both ends about half way and get the job done .but with the 200mm hardwood timber poppers and stickbaits has anyone got any ideas as to how to get the holes nice and straight right thru with these fine drill bits other than cutting popper straight up the centre and reglueing them after wire is put in

Put a search in the search function. This has been discussed in length before- about 5 years ago so going through the “ make your own lures” section could be time consuming

I do this successfully on my 180-270mm through hardwood.
The trick is to drill your swivel hole first. I then use tape to go from end to end and use it as a guide with the joint line on the top of my drill. Rotating 90 degrees ever 10-20 mm to ensure it’s still straight. Pull the drill but in and out to rid of the waste. With hardwood the natural sap/gum will heat up and start to cease your drill bit causing you to push harder and flex the drill bit. I get about 15-20 lures out of a Sutton Long Shank bit before I change it out for a brand new one. Hope this helps |

So simple of a solution, I would never have thought of turning the lure to RE-align the hole
