Have you ever cast a fishing lure and lived in dread of losing it as it cannot be replaced? Confused

Purge your conscience and share your "fishing on the edge" story with us!

Here's a few photo's taken during a fun session in Cairns, fishing with CaptainCranky and friends, throwing just those kind of lures (very generously provided for the day by Barry)

Cheers, Tony

G'day Wadey

I spent the majority of that session fishing with a very nice Eric Moller Tiger, and the Peter Newell Kadaitcha that is tied on to my line in the photo was cast and retrieved past an old Jetty and weed bed more than a few times!

The Moller was a real Barra magnet and attracted quite a few boofs - if only the same could be said for my casting skills using Barry's reels tweaked for guru casters (which I sadly am not) which meant I spent a lot of time sorting out bird nests while the Barra were smacking it! EmbarrassedLOL

I've got a picture here of a Barra one of the crew caught on a Damper Diver on the day, will have to dig it up!

Here's a very rare "Piebald" Barra caught on the day. It's an albino (check out the blue eyes) although has skin pigmentation in patches.

Based on what I've heard from experienced people in hatchery/aquaculture this is a genetic mutation that is very rare.

The lure that did the job here was a Ron Cockbain "Damper Diver"

WOW... is that property for sale!? amazing coloured fish, used to get coral trout like that on the swains, they change colour depending on water depth they are in.
Nice fish!

The colour of that Barra is amazing! I have only heard of them but have never seen a picture. Did the fish come from "stocked" ponds or is the area natually stocked after flood waters?

well tony and captain a few years ago on the Broughton Rvr in S.A. in 2002 icasted a red=black striped kaditcha thatpeter newell had painted me devastating cod weapon and i caught many but the night in question i casted the lure and the leader snapped and the lure landed into some weed near the opposing bank. at the time i wasn't really concerned and thought to myself i'll just wander back down in the morning and retrieve it but you guessed it somebody else beat me to it and i've never seen that lure again. rtegards .bj.

Very good Tony,
Does the Captain know that it is more dangerous working on lures while driving than it is with a
a cell phone in your ear while driving?   LOLLOLLOL

One of the first things my mentor told me, and I quote.

"Lures are literally throw away items. Every time you cast, you throw it away, with every possibility of it being eaten and taken from you."Ouch

Words I will never forget, and every time I tie on that somethin special, those very words rattle through my head as though he's right next to me saying it. Cool

That's one cool lookin Barra! Clap

Read a reel review where the writer trolled a 20,000 size steller to test its water proofing for a couple of hours! I Mean he trolled the reel behind a game boat in water with big marlin and tuna around. Ive seen enough lit up marlin to know that it could have been eaten!
