Great flies, all should catch trout and bass in our waters.
How can one keep a fly tying bench so organized and neat??????
Cheers,

Not weighted, Chris.
Heavy guage hook, negates the need.
Mate, I'd chuck a shit sandwich at them if I knew they liked bread!!! Wink
I've run low on Shrimp Patterns, so going through the 'odds' box of flys. OuchCool
I'll take a picky for ya, of my own design, very simple, Carp Reducer Fly!!!
Tied with fluro mono, on a No6 Baitholder hook!
It works!!! Thumbs Up

Cod season's only 5 weeks away, time to get tying!

My standard surface fly, caught many cod on these last year. I tie these in 2/0 up to 10/0 and would go bigger if the hooks weren't so damn expensive. Pretty tame action - they just duck dive  but have a lovely organic noise about them. The fish love them too! One day I'll get around to tying some up on #1's to try over trout on a dark moonless night......

Wiggle mouse to try on slow days, or for something different. Makes a nice wake, but doesn't dive down very far.

Mal

they sure do work! I think I had as good results (and often better) as my usual fishing partner - and he almost exclusively uses surface lures too.

They've evolved from a couple of different patterns that merged together so I can't really claim credit for it. The only real innovation is that I don't trim the foam 'nose' off as it holds the snap I always use out straight and stops the leader or snap fouling. The feathers for the body are from the sides of the cock pheasant rump (the coloured feathers are used for Mrs Simpsons), so they're normally waste.

How do they look when they have been for a swim. Great body shape. what size hook used.

Looks like an all rounder fly.

How smaller  a hook can you use and still get the same body shape
Certainly catches the fisherman.Thumbs Up

Hi John, it has a little Softex brushed on the outer to help keep the shape so looks pretty much as you see it all the time. Being all synthetic the water falls straight out of it when out of the drink. I see no reason why you couldn't keep the the same shape on a smaller hook, you don't use much of the shank to tie this fly. These are tied on 3/0 stainless O'Shaughnessy. The smaller 2 with a tail, attaches to the shank not the main body, I would like to keep playing in that space.
Cheers Steve.

they are both very easy and very hard John, they don't spook as easy as trout but not far off .they will follow flies and not strike but if they do strike hit hard and hook themselves.then go like the clappers
