Maybe when you think "one more big one" it's time to hang out on the wall and tie on a cheap one

Today was the first time in quite a while that Wal and I had been able to get to the reef.

I lost my only other Mad Dog Wahoo lure to the reef - like it's predecessor, on it's maiden outing.
I then used a Headland Lure popper and was hit by a big giant trevally and a reef shark - both missed the hooks.

The photos tell the rest of the story-
Wal with-
a shark mackerel

and with a red throat emperor

and with a spangled emperor

and with a coral trout

and with a tomato cod

and with another coral trout

and with a school mackerel

and with a barracuda

and a wolf herring

Notice how my face isn't in any of these photos?Cry
At least I only lost ONE lure, Wal lost FOUR , but all to fish.

Ray has a profile on site managed by his daughter. Send him a message. He is at Emu Park near Yeppoon if you are ever down that way.

Went down to Port Douglas for a wedding then stayed with Cam Cupitt and family for a couple of nights. While there, and in between rain storms, Cam's son Phil and I went to a drainage ditch chasing sooty grunter, jungle perch and mud cod (a big gudgeon). I was using a Mark A Lure and Phil was using a little Nicho's Mauler.

I scored 4 or 5 mud cod (having too much fun to keep count) and dropped qite a few more with many other hits. Phil scored a little sooty and 2 or 3 mud cod. We only saw one jungle perch. This type of fishing is pretty tight and sometimes it is only just the tip of the rod pointing through the underbrush.

If I can get the photos off Phil, I'll post up his photos of his fish as most of the time we fish either side of the ditch.

They are absolutely gorgeous to look at - and very aggressive and barra love to eat them. Locals use them as live bait in the brackish waters.

Way to go Martin I`m beginning to think you could find fish in bottled water, well done.
I was lucky enough to come by some Mark A Barra Lures last week, they look amazing and I cant wait to get a chance to use them next year.
I have also been privileged to recently acquire some Lobby lures mentioned in an earlier post in this section all great lures and am eager to get them wet in the coming year.
Currently in Maryborough Qld and didn`t bring any gear with me but looking forward to meeting a few lure makers on my way home next week.
Cheers Kimo

That drain eventually makes it to the North Johnston River. These fish are becoming more colourful in the lead up to their breeding season.

Not caught by me but caught on my lures - all 3 on the same lure in fact. Caught in the Gwydir River by Cody from @luring.natives_ (Instagram).

First 2 pictures are the same fish.

Cheers
