Hi everyone I've just joined just thought I'd let yas know I have a few flopy lures, of each colour but no Blues as of yet, have around 25, and as I've seen and read that they only made 3 sizes, I have 4 different sizes, some flopys with plug in front nose, and some without

Hi the flopys did not come in a surface lure, the one in the previous pics was one I made out of red cedar, just posted it in photo with the originals to get a few bites |

My first good lure caught fish was on a medium Flopy, beautiful silver perch in the Namoi River. Bloody magic lures.
The last of the many... |

What is the time line, plain clear plastic boxes, through to the blister packs then the closure of the floppy line, early 80's

Also with regards to the Blue Flopy's, not only did they come in one size, but the one's you see advertised in the hard plastic boxes are also incorrect. What I have found out is the Blue only come out in the Blister packaging. They all had stainless steel hooks as they were the salt water series. Here are a few of my collection.

Some people do get the blue and green mixed up, there is a big difference between them. The earlier flopys were hand painted so two were never identical, even the body rubber varied in colour so the top colour did vary a little. When I use to buy them from the local tackle shop I always checked the colouring for what i wanted, sometimes depending on the batch they would be painted the same colour code but be very different

The Blue Flopy only come in one size, Large. There is a colour similar, it starts off blue at the nose & changes from blue to like yellowish over blue.

My remaining blue Flopy with freshwater hooks not stainless steel. The other Flopy was my mother's uncles lure. He had a pro fishing reach at Walker Flat S.A. on the Murray. Check out the line burn across the back. Too bad they are deteriorating and quickly as well. I have them kept in their boxes and out of most light.

I remember selling the blue Flopys in Mossops many years ago. Flopys were probably at the peak of their popularity at the time, late 70's to mid 80's We used to order them in by the gross (12 dozen or 144 in old time talk) The blue was marketed as a Saltwater Flopy, with stainless hooks, possibly made only for Australia. Never really popular, the freshwater one far outsold it.

The first tow clip is perfectly balanced. Often wondered if the lopsided later one worked quite as well.
They both look extremely flimsy but pulled in a lot of 50lb murray cod.
The large blue sold in Australia was meant for saltwater with its silver hooks. Also a heavier duty clip.
To cope with barramundi? Nobody would have used blue in fresh water to chase murray cod
Cheers, Jim

The tow clip on the flopy worked very well on these, have tried replacing with different types but it changes the way the flopy swims, even tried a swivel but that made it loose it's action.
I still think the flopy is the best freshwater lure and surprised nobody has developed a new manufacturing process and market them again. That's the original rubber style. It would be interesting to see the process required to make them |

Thanks mick....the top pic large is a good example of the color variations...the true blues were blue and silver only...the one in your pic shows the blend of standard colours with the blue...ive seen these in all sizes ....but the blue silver only in large size....so that pic is interesting...some close up pics would be good in natural light.
Cheers its interesting. Jas |

Gee they're early. First tow clip and you can still read "FLOPY" in the rubber.
Wonder why they never brought this out to Australia?
