    Posted: 21 Jul 2015 at 10:20pm
I've been making Echo lures for nearly a year now, however I only really started fishing them last summer. Winter last year saw me jumping with joy purely when they swam properly in the local duck pond.

I'm happy with their fish catching ability so far, and I thought I'd post up two memories that stand out for me the most since summer.

The first is this beautiful browny I caught in the Eucumbene river before the season closed. I made a couple of special baby Merrits for the trip to Anglers Reach, and a crisp clear morning resulted in a group decision to fish the Eucumbene River. I had never been fishing during the spawning run, and didn't know what to expect. It just didn't seem right to me once there, and after thinking about it during the trip and on the way home, I won't fish it again. I don't think any less of any other fishos who choose to make the trip each year as they are not breaking any laws and I'm sure a lot of them are very responsible people, but it just wasn't for me seeing big tired brownies being interrupted from their journey, dragged up the bank in the snow and bopped on the head. I left the crowds and walked a kilometre or so upstream and after seeing a top looking bit of water and firing off a cast I ended up with this beautiful fish. A quick few snaps of it without it leaving the water and it was back on it's way again.

The second highlight is this incredible Golden Perch my best mate caught while we were fishing on Lake Burley Griffin one still morning in March. He picked it up on a green and gold Merrit and it is his best Golden Perch by a country mile. A quick snap and the fish was back in the water.

A couple of memories that stand out

Cheers,

Danny.

Danny, I got to see some of your work in my hand over the Expo weekend. All I have to say is WOW!!!
The pics on here are nice but cannot come close to seeing 1st hand, the beautiful paint work on well fashioned peices of timber.

For a recent starter you are leaps and bounds ahead of some of us old foggies.

Cheers Brad

Thanks guys. Brad I'm happy you liked them. Apart from the raffle lure there may have been a handful floating around in the suitcase of one of the members there I think

Thanks Graeme and Sel.

Sel I'm really looking forward to a swap for one of your lures you've made. They'll be great on the Golden Perch around here. My only problem is they look too nice to swim

Danny.

After seeing switched on angler John's (Screamingreel) reports of him continually catching wonderful fish at Eucumbene, I decided early this week to head up to Jindy at the first available chance.

Picked up Phil and his crutches at 3.30am and we were away. Launching at Kalkite in heavy fog that was clearing from the north but still keeping the view of the Jindy township well obscured, we headed south and began some trolling runs. We picked up numerous nice fish throughout the day, both rainbows and brownies, exclusively on Echo and Tonk creations.

Here's a couple of stand-outs.

This very pale fish was one of numerous that fell to the little brown trout Jinjulu.

Phil picked up this awesome browny on a newer lace patterned Jinjulu.

This little browny that took a liking to an ultra deep baby Merrit was simply a stunning fish. It was carefully cradled for a quick photo then released.

Cheers,

Danny.

Mate Rob's Mini Tonk fished extremely well. I've put in a report of it's efforts under "using members only lures."

Danny you had a great trip, well done.

They have gone quiet here for a week, 15 cars in Yen's yesterday.

Better to select a quieter area or bring a boat / canoe. if coming up this way.

After dark with the fly still  no action.  More people trying now, gone are the days when I had the whole place to myself.

G'day John.

I am impressed with your dedication at Eucumbene. It has given me some wonderful fish but I don't have anywhere near the strike rate that you have. Jindy is most definitely my go to lake out of the two when I want to feel confident that I'll pick up a few.

Cheers,

Danny.

After itching to get back to Jindabyne for the last two weeks, it was finally time to get back up there today for a fish. I picked up Phil at 3.00am and we arrived at Kalkite right on dawn.

An increasing southerly with very fine rain put a chill on the first few hours of the trip, however Phil's first browny of the day took our minds off it It was a horse of a fish and fell to the goldfish coloured baby Merrit.

Throughout the day we got numerous beautiful browns, rainbows, and a stunning brooky. It'd be nice to show them all, however in order to not overload the thread with repetition I'll keep it to a couple.

A lovely brown that took a liking to one of the new ultra deep baby Merrits.

One of numerous browns that hit the metal bibbed Jinjulu. I'm very happy with the action of this lure, and it has definitely given me confidence to design more metal bibbed trout lures.

A beautifully marked brooky Phil picked up on a deep bibbed baby Merrit.

Cheers,

Danny.

Only thing better than catching fish on your own lures is watching a friend do it. Nice result.

Very true Alistair. Don't really care who's rod rattles in the holder, it's just nice to convert home made lures into awesome fish.

Thanks Graeme hopefully the handful you have can produce a few more fish for you.

Those beautiful lures are catching some beautiful fish. All that work is paying off. Big smile says it all. Thanks for the photos. Nice to see the different kinds of trout I've never caught. Great colours in them.

Thanks Brad - some of the smaller browns we caught that weren't posted here were simply stunning, and probably the nicest looking fish I've seen up there. The spots look almost oversize on them when they're smaller, creating some amazing colours.

Rob - is that the famous brooky of 1991? Yes it's one of my favourite places too and most definitely my favourite trout lake to fish.

Cheers,

Danny.

I went for a paddle this morning on a local lake and thought I'd post this photo of a lovely cod picked up on a metal bibbed Jinjulu. I'm only fishing trout/small golden perch sized lures this time of year, definitely no spinnerbaits or big lures period and I leave the rivers alone. This beautiful fish was certainly still a welcome by-catch. It wasn't removed from the water and after a quick few photos it swam off straight back down to it's snag.

Cheers,

Danny.
