Hi all, Picked these two up at Wangaratta swap today. Found the glittery one, then found the Baltic on the second visit to the same site. Glittery one is coated in varnish or resin, which is cracking off. Anyone seen anything like Mr Sparkles?? Bec |

HI!
this is crazy late, but i am actually the granddaughter of Ksenia szot, she made the baltic minnow. can confirm the attached one is made by her! if anyone has any more questions i can ask her directly (: she is still around and kicking. We have quite a few and the moulds around somewhere. |

G'day Natasha;
Could you ask your grandmother if Baltic made the flattened Red Gill ? We have never seen an advertisement or a Baltic packet for it. The Baltic moulds wouldn't be available for purchase by any chance ? Cheers, Jim |

hi Natasha
wow, how lucky you are I collect the Minnow. Balltic Bobber etc (as you can see from the above pic Any information from the history of the Minnow, and how it come about would be great... I too would be greatly interested in purchasing anything, moulds etc to add to my collection. We were brought up using the Minnows when we were young I love the history of Australian fishing, and particularly metal Lures Regards Rick

Thaks John that would be great.
I think I will stick to collecting the Baltics and similar design lures Their pretty cool Have quite a collection of Rublex Flopys, but I keep them hidden away in a cool place, they just deteriorate if left out, might consider getting rid of them Rick

John,
Are you still catching fish casting metal lures into the muddy waves against a howling head wind. I was always impressed because it seemed so counter intuitive until one thought about it. Cheers, Jim

Hi Jim
Interesting question. Water very very high for lake Eucumbene the highest since I have been here, now 9 years. Was the only one fishing into the wind yesterday had four different rods set up with four different styled lures . rugged up like a polar bear winds coming off what snow is left with two pairs of gloves on. Only two rods on view do not want a fine. Fishing into the wind you do not have any competition for a suitable spot. Dressing warmly a must. Nailed a 43cm brown winds blowing 35klms gusting to early 50,s needed to cast side on and risk losing lures in shallower water if you continued to fish during the gusts. Only throwing 3.5 grams bibbed lures need to be well balanced 8 ft to 8,6ft 1-3 KG rods down to 7ft rod if wind lighter. Metal lures you need to specialise in the right area you use them otherwise you snag now due to lake level. Fortunately I have by now a map of the areas fished in my mine , trees, fences, rocky areas, thorn bushes which will all need to be serviced once the water drops. (Have Hobie to assist in that area now) Picked up a further 3 trout but they were a lot smaller. as it got dark. Fly fishing out of the question. Chest waders on : (A) to assist landing fish around all the fresh growth under water a number of fished lost from shore when winding them in thru the bushes. ( B) Up to your bum in the water when gusts arrived you need to back back quickly other wise you have a bit of white water climbing up and into your waders. I check behind me for a suitable escape as I work the shore. Fishing near a dirt bush road under water helps. (C) when the wind is not as strong as yesterday I have been using a small epoxy fly minnow between size 10 to 14 short leader 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 inches long attached to a small swivel about 12 to 14 inches up the line that has worked exceedingly well but fly supplies are dwindling but fresh fly supplies on the way. I have not come across any body else using the same rig from the shore since I have been here. Regards John |

Hi Rick
Have not seen a flopy being used up here. There appears to be a bit of a push for the flat fish lures to trolled once again and some good results have been reported. The rebel crick hopper styled lure (O/Seas copies available) were very successfully used during the Buckenderra comp end Nov/Dec. No doubt we will found a few Baltic Minnows around the trees when the water drops. Regards John |
