Brother just bought a boat with a 8 HP Mariner , about 1983 model . It has what looks like a electrical outlet on the Port side of the motor .
 Any ideas anyone ?

It may have a charging loop fitted! Start the motor and put a voltmeter on it...

Jeff, the 8hp mariner I had years ago had same outlet, used it to run a spotlight. Good little motor for creek work etc. Cheers Richard
