Sorry misread I assume you are referring to how many mm's in a row they were equivalent to.
Are smarties the same size in case Alistair can't get mm's?

G'day Tony, I reckon it would have been either 1993 or 1994, probably 1994 though? I won the biggest Murray Cod in the Mulwala Classic in 1995 on one of my Mega Boomers, I think a few may have been made in 1994 though. By the time Ray got into doing them in any numbers I had moved to the North Coast and that was in Jan 1997, hope this helps, cheers Paul.

Found a pic on an old email of a very early Megaboomer. Cant remember who has this one but know it was confirmed as one of Rays originals as well as by Paul Kneller. Pity it is not on a ruler as it is a big bugger, like the later Megaboomers. One for the records.

Was watching the Megaboomer on ebay just go under the hammer. Pretty much the same black and white colours up top but with red spray on the underside front and back.
Seller had a starting price of $500 on it which I thought that was hopeful. I was wrong. Last second bidding saw it go for $815.98 . Will be interesting to see if this brings some more out of the woodwork.

Wow! I thought $500 was ambitious also Alistair. Little do we know, must be nice when your collection increases in value though.

A couple of us have wondered for a few years what one would go for on the open market as they never seem to come up but I don't think we can value them though at $800. I am sure the second bidder thought they were winning the lure easily. Hopefully this might bring a few out for all to see and maybe if a few are sold we will see a more accurate valuation.

So where does that price the Deception Mega Boomer - it was made at the same time by Paul (who was close to Ray Whitmore) and many less were made ?
It has cost me very similar $'s to this auction in the past to secure. Cheers Rob |

Actually bought my very first Deception Mega Boomer on eBay years ago .... if it wasn't for a fellow LL's member it would have been a lot cheaper Couldn't believe it, I put in a solid suicide bid and the fellow LL's member did likewise - at the end of the auction I realised there was only 1 bid increment between the 2 suicide bids, I won by the skin of my teeth but have never regretted the $'s to this day Cheers Rob |

The last one to sell on the open market fetched over $800..... how can you not value them at $800 ? If the open market is not the best indicator, what is ? |

Because I believe a value should be based on an average. The next bidder was about $805, the next was $511. so if there were 3 available it would be reasonable to expect that the average price to be payed would be $710. Happy to see them priced high as I have a good number of Whitmore's but am realistic that this price yesterday is not the benchmark.

Well the old line " it's worth what someone is willing to pay " is null and void to your way of thinking, at least two different people were willing to shell out over $800 for this particular lure .

No, it is exactly what I am saying, just that the 'law of averages' which takes into account a number of 'what someone is willing to pay' determines the overall value of things.
To put it another way, the one sold yesterday was valued at $813 but to be able to answer the question with accuracy of what are Whitmore Megaboomer's worth 'generally' then you cant base that on just 1 sale IMHO. I am hoping this will bring a few more out of the woodwork just to see what other ones are out there. They might be too high a price to obtain but at least we will get to see them
