that was the hardest piece of red cedar ive ever carved,it came from a tree stump that had been underwater for many years.I'm currently working on painting the bib ,more pics to follow. This lure will be displayed in the collectors area at the lure expo

Never mind casting it I would like to see the fish that`s gunna take it.
Beautiful piece of work, and a lot of patience and ability is displayed in it.
I have naught but praise for it, but at what stage dose it cease to be a lure and become a piece of talented art ?
Cheers Kimo

more art than lure Kimo though it should swim and i recon if i gave to Martin he'd get a GT on itLOL.I like doing the arty stuff but i also get a lot of satisfaction making normal fishable lures too.

I am amazed at the time and the quality of work that has gone into this piece.
As I do not, and have no ability to create such work I am compelled to ask a lot of silly questions
Following the step by step process in the artwork I have to ask ?
It looks like you have used a clear coat to seal and cover the cedar and then commenced to do a layer by layer coats of the amazing artwork on top of this.
Question? is it a special clear coat used to allow the artistic coats to bond to the surface coat? or is their a primer or something required to allow the arty coats to bond to what looks to be a glossy clear coat.?Or dose it all just bond on its own?
Hope you can understand whatI am asking
Thanks Kimo

no problem Kimo,in the first picture the lure has been shaped ,sanded and sealed.Next it was undercoated in an automotive undercoat about 6 coats and sanded with fine wet and dry sandpaper between each coat.next it was painted in black acrylic lacquer then four coats of an automotive colorshift paint .after that i airbrushed the beginings of a kracken type face at the front of the lure and airbrushed the pirate skull then put a couple of coats of acrylic lacquer clear over it all.still got a bit to do yet,i'm currently doing the bib which will have an old world  rose compass bezel on it.
bit of work in this thing but its good fun
