I picked up a few lures in the mail today (got them Rob) which included a couple of new Whitmores for the collection. One is the Whitmore Barra and the other is an un named smaller lure in a guppy typeish shape. This one is of interest as it has the twisted wire tow point from body up through the bib which I believe was made by Ray for his own use to make them run a bit deeper. It goes nicely with the rare non production lures I have of Ray's "whitmore lures with twisted wire tow points were his own personal lures own use before going into production. these lures reached greater depths than the loose fitting tow clips that allowed over rotation of the action at the expence of depth. twisted wire towing points gave considerable gain in depth. but they did not look attractive or professonal hence the change in design. Here you are Alistair, this is the Barra lure I got a fair while ago. And the close up pic of the nose of the lure is where the Rattle is, I am not sure if you can see it in the photo but when you roll the lure in your hand you can see it. It has a deep clunk noise when swayed side to side just like the Mega Boomer I have. |

G'day Monty, I dont think that is a Whitmore. The eye's are not like any I have seen on a Whitmore and the fact you bought it through a shop at Brisbane does not sound right with the twisted wire tow point which I am not sure were sold, or if so in numbers away from the southern area where they were made. It does though look farmiliar but I cannot put my finger on the maker. I know there were a few makers who did the twisted wire tow point thing and hopefully someone will be able to ID it (assuming I am wrong). Can you post a pic top and bottom as well? What size it it? Looks like it hardly saw water and is in near mint condition still.
Tony, nice barra lure. i can see why you grabbed it. I can see the rattle chamber hole in the pic. Same placement as in my boomers.

Yeah that is not any of Ray's that I have ever seen, and he never sold to shops more than around 12 maybe 13 years ago, when he left Franklins.
