Thanks Barry very interesting, I think I have one of Lou's early ones from around 1990, stayed at the Lucinda camping ground and they were selling Lucinda Lures at the ground store.

Hey Barry, it's great to see that article again. It was written by the Bully's senior journo John Anderson and pretty much tells it like it is. For those who don't know John, he is a top bloke with a very distinctive writing style all of his own. Like all good writers and artists, you can usually pick his work a mile off.

Talking about gold shares, I came across a little miner that I reckon has great prospects. IT's name is Golden Rim Resources (ASX code GMR).

At a share price at around 14 cents the share is certainly speculative so don't put your house on it.
All I'm doing is giving you guys a "heads up".
Please do your own research and only buy if you are comfortable with taking a punt with it.

Good luck
Cheers Lou,

G'day Lou, gold is still at $1500 an ounce mate LOL.
Maybe you can help, in 1993 I visited a mate in Lucinda, he was a Darwin Telstra workmate. His dad was boss of that CSR huge wharf complex, name of Pat DuRitz. While staying in Lucinda caravan/camping ground I purchased a timber metal bibbed barra lure, people in kiosk said it was a Lucinda Lure. Nothing like any of the lexan bibbed creations I'm seeing attributed to you. I'll dig it out and take a photo, did you sell from that kiosk?
Sadly, my mate was later killed in that plane crash, along with five other Telstra blokes when they hit the top of Mt.Thornton in the Daintree region in 2000.
Regards, Seaweed.

Yep Tony, at around $1500 it's a good buying opportunity I reckon.Wink The latest concensis seems to be up to $5000 oz. But when is the leading question ay.

I was making metal bib lures around that period but I have never sold through the kiosk. Post the photo & I should be able to identify the bugger if it's one of mine.

Sorry about your mate.

Thanks Lou, at the time Pat was managing the sugar wharf he lived in a company house opposite the camping ground, since retiring and the tragedy he moved to Townsville, Cranbrook I think?
Here's the lure mentioned, I definitely got it from the kiosk, no card or any ID on lure, as it's only one of these I have, I don't swim it. Painted eyes, although at first they appear stick-on.
Regards, Seaweed.

Great to see one again and in such good condition.

Of course you're right Gary - There's no way the worlds politicians would allow their currencies to devalue against Gold that much aye? Surely not! Shocked Tongue

After all, in order to stop the Gold price rising all they need to do is to have sound economic policies, control government spending, reduce deficits, reduce the level of government interference in so called free markets amongst a few other things.

With such clever people as the leaders of the G20 and our friends in the IMF taking care of things I'm sure all of that is going to be sorted any day now, right?

The last Gold bull market was stopped in it's tracks by massive increases in interest rates - This time around there's a slight hitch as how the heck is the US Government going to pay the interest payment on it's debt of circa 15 TRILLION dollars if they do that? (let alone paying off any of the principal) It's not so hard for them right now with the Zero % Interest Rate policy currently in place Wink

Hey you are spot on Tony. The worlds leaders will all pull together and save the world.....bloody hell, that was a flock of pigs flying by.Unhappy

Seriously Tony, your post is a beauty & I wholeheartedly agree. What worries me is if blokes like you & I can see what the problems are, why the heck can't the mob who are in a position to do something also see it.

Unfortunately I reckon we have reached the point of no return; a case of 'too late she cried'. Dunno about you mate, but I can see little alternative but to let the whole shebang collaps and start again based on the gold standard or something similar. When this will eventuate is anyone's guess however. I suspect that these current turkeys will kick the can down the road a few more times yet.

Maybe we still have a bit of time up our sleeves to acquire some more gold & gold shares.Thumbs Up

Couldn't agree more, who's gonna tell aversge Joe the truth though ? Certainly not the government and definitely not a financial planner who gets nothing once you pull your coin out of the market.  But then again average Joe is happy to sit back having no idea what is happening to his superannuation and other investments because every second morning Kochy is on the box spruiking ' the glass is half-full people '. It's only a matter of time til it all falls in a heap.

They certainly have proven to be very good at kicking that can Lou! I'm sure there's still a few dirty tricks to come, although it's interesting to note how little follow through there is in regards to such as the blatantly illegal activity occuring in various markets, not to mention Libor, MF Global etc etc etc.

Who knows whats coming - New international reserve maybe? (seems to be lots of speculation on China there, and the new currency swap deals being set up are interesting to see...)

I certainly won't be surpised to see a new form of currency issued again in my lifetime (probably a digital only one next time as that would be a lot easier to devalue on the sly I suppose)

An honest currency backed if not by gold at least by some sort of commodity basket would make life a lot less challenging for those of us who simply wish to make sure the value of any money we manage to save retains it's buying power and isn't stolen by stealth through inflation. (not holding my breath on that though) Ouch

I reckon collectables are one of the better ways to hang on to the value of your dollars Jim, thats why you always see lots of fine art when you see the flash mansions etc on the telly. So your strategy is sound, although it's always good to diversify Wink

Tangible assets such as Gold, Art, and Land have historically been recognised as some of the best ways to preserve wealth. (because there is no counterparty risk)

Disclaimer: This does not constitute financial advice, if my financial planning skills any good I'd surely be on a tropical island somewhere drinking rum instead of sitting at the keyboard! LOL

G'day Jim,
I sure support your feelings about government influence; especially this present mob. Unfortunately I have little confidence in the opposition also.

Mate, my attude to investing is that it's a matter of personal choice. My system is to do sufficent research to allow me to be comfortable with any decision I make. Whatever happens thereafter is a result from my decision alone - it's great if things work out, if not, well sh@t happens ay.
As a matter of principal I don't take on another persons personal research or advice other than to listen on the basis on a 'heads up' exercise. I then follow up with my own research to explore possibilities.

Jim, what I'm trying to say is; if you are personally content and comfortable with what you are doing then that's the way to go. It really doesn't matter what anyone else is doing. Naturally, there is nothing to stop you looking into other areas of investment or ideas if you feel like it. The bottom line is that what suits one person won't necessarily suit everyone else. There is no such thing as a perfect investment method.
Please let me know if you find one.
Cheers Lou,

Lou, thanks for IDing your early lure, might be scarce as you say, I've never seen another on here.
Don't know about Super anymore, don't trust any of them, always posting negative earnings on my wifes Hostplus. As soon as I turned 60, I pulled all my Super (tax free) and placed it in Fixed Deposits. I've Comsuper so I'm lucky like the pollies LOL. CPI indexed for life, not many of us older PMG workers retained it, glad I did when Telstra tried to talk me into switching, smelt a rat and I was right!
All Aussies should have Comsuper and revenue used to build the country, this is the English system, my old mum is 88 and still gets a percentage from the years in England before emigrating in 1957.
They'd call me a Socialist for this view, so be it, at least the Scase's of this world can't get their greasies onto it.
Regards, Seaweed.

Seaweed, if I still had super (& I don't) I would be holding it in the 'Cash Fund' until such time when the economy and stock markets fall over the cliff. At that juncture I would be transferring it back to one of the higher risk equity funds; then sit back & watch value accumulate as the recovery happens.

Mate, this is only what I would do. While it's not offered as advice, perhaps it will serve as a thought starter for you & the other gals & guys around here.

Hope you are enjoying this great thread -I sure am.

The Government are FOOLS,the other side just as FOOLISH,,,the main drama as I see it is you can have some bonehead in a office killing a company slowly & still get a $30,000,000 yearly bonus,,you get some poor bugger slaving his life away for $20 an hour invests his hard to come by in a company that tells him all is sweet as sugar,,2 years later the turkey in the office is looking for another job but with 60,000,000 to help & the bugger that is the slave has lost everything with no come back or he gets 8 cents in the dollar & is told thats as good as it gets,,my mate invested $100,000 in a company did all the research payed good money for advice off someone that was in the know,,6 months later $100.000 goneski mate has had 3 heart attacts & a stroke,,no one ever was help accountable,,,thats the drama,,I USED TO HAVE A SHIRT THAT SAID KILL THEM ALL & LET GOD SORT OUT THE CRAP...we need a fairer society more equal sharing of the wealth,,but it will never happen,,I belive MIDNIGHT OIL said it years ago,,THE RICH GETTING RICHER & THE POOR GET THE PICTURE,,,,,the SEX PISTOLS new it in the 1970`s,,,there is only one truely equal form ofGOVERNMENT ANARCHY every one is equal .,.,.,Gary

I remember that saying during the Vietnam war, thought it a bit harsh at the time. Coming true now in a different war zone, muslims killing other muslims due to sectarian views. As Lou suggested, I'm already a believer, have my savings in Fixed Deposits, only return 5% PA but I'm not greedy. Along with my Comsuper pension I'll just cruise, don't smoke, don't gamble, make my own home-brew beer, they can kiss my a@#e! LOL.
Love you guys, Seaweed.

Yair Gary, still waiting for the gold bounce and Rhonda's kitchen is still as far away as ever.

Hey, but the big event is getting closer each day.........only hope I live long enough to see it.

Maaate, I have a slightly used crystal ball for sale......it's performance to date isn't too flash tho.

Seriously, considering the amount of debt sloshing around world economies, the situation is far worse than it's ever been. It's only a matter of time for when the wheels fall off IMHO. When? Could be tomorrow, next week or ten years time. Who knows, I certainly don't as proven above.

Don't need the crystal ball Nando (although I do have an awesome one!), I strongly believe I know what must eventually happen based on history repeating itself yet again. (ever felt like you were re-watching news from the 70's in recent years?)

As with anything it's always in the timing - these financial events happen like a train wreck, if you've seen one before you know what's going to happen, although all you can do is get out of the way, take precautions to protect yourself, and watch in horror as it plays out in slow motion in front of you - If you've ever experienced a major catastrophe you'll know that the sense of time it takes can easily get very distorted Wink

On a related note, did you hear that the investigations into RBA  bribe payments to Asian Government officials re currency printing contracts has just had a blanket hush order slapped on all press through use of the secrets act? Given that this organisation is responsible for setting monetary policy and answers to no-one (neither gov't nor citizens) I find this deeply disturbing, apparently details of the censorship order have been published on wikileaks Wink

And in other news, worldwide stock markets have recently hit all time highs and share market investor confidence is likewise at an all time high.... Hmmm aren't these the headlines you normally see prior to major market crashes? Confused

Cheers, Tony

For the love of Fishing Lures.
