Is this one of Halco's ad's?

I try and stay away from RMG postings but this is more relating to how marketing puts spin on stuff to sell a product which when looked at holds very little truths. I understand the ad has 4 different lures in it (One would of thought they would spell Biggoon right before printing) the list is mainly made up of Scorpion lures and which are what my comments relate to. As said, this is not a post about the maker but rather how marketing makes statements that are pretty much bulldust.

They have used some interesting wording

Unique "Being the only one of its kind"   - I dont think so.

Innovative - "being or producing something like nothing done or experienced or created before" - Again, I really dont think so.

Design - "To conceive or fashion in the mind; invent". - I think I may have been actually designed by someone else.

Developed - "Advanced in industrial capability, technological sophistication, and economic productivity" - I can agree with that. Rob / Halco did take the Scorpion to the next level in this definition.
Alistair.

Alistair, RMG was sold to Halco in 2001 (YTBC)so would make the ad Gaden era

as for the 'HYPE' Wink...advertising guru's always apply some artistic license I reckon. To bad they can't get the facts and details right at the same time LOL

I did not know when Halco purchased the rights to the lures but as said, my point is about the advert wording more so. It would be no different if another maker put up the same ad (such as Bennett or Powell ) as the Scorpion lure was designed by Peter Newell which was his innovative design and until others made it this was the only time it was unique.

You get my pointLOL

Given that the Scorpion utilised the cross section of an aircraft wing then it wouldn't satisfy your definition of innovative either Alistair.

That would be the Kadaitcha, Simon.  I always thought it was the Scorpion that Pete used the aircraft wing cross-sections, but Wazza corrected me a few years ago on that matter.

Irrespective, I doubt that too many lure makers have used aerodynamic design in the design of their lures so, for me, it was very innovative of Peter to use this concept.

Thanks for clarifying that Powelly, must say most of the times I have seen the wing section applied was in relation to the Scorpion particluarly with referenc e to the patent application.

The point I was trying to make (perhaps a bit vague) was that using definitions in their strict context doesn't work.

If using the strict definition of "innovative" as supplied using a wing section is not "innovative" because it used an existing idea.

i make magazines and its amazing how often this happens ..  once noticed sydways upside down on the spine . it had been through so many people then i make the first book and notice it , then everything stops wait for mr ways to get there talk it out , would have to be some sort of compensation as comes back run the books ..... but then if nobody notices even though the binder operator  has and notified the right people , just run on as the cost can get out of hand .... keep looking it is in most magazines ...... once did a backyard magazine on the front cover you could see under the girls dress nothing on ... that one had to be reprinted ......... cheers aaron

Ok then, in more laymans terms. The scorpion lure was not designed by RMG lures. The only accurate part of the advertisment wording would be the fact that RMG developed the lure into the current form as seen in the pics. Would that be more accurate without going into fine detail? The whole lot then would not be innovative so is also unsuitable to have been used in a descriptive way for any of the lures?

As my comments are about the inaccurate marketing hype I guess then that the claim as well that one of the lures caught the largest Murray Cod in Australia is a stretch. Largest ever recorded on lure maybe but I dont believe it was the largest ever.

Brad

I think Halco brought RMG  around 1995 could be wrong but it was before  2001

Also if you look at the Poltergiest it has the clips RMG used before Halco so I think and RMG add

I believe 1995 is correct, so the brand may have been owned by either Rob Gaden or Halco at the time of the ad.

Regardless of who owned the brand at the time, someone certainly made some big oopsies in the ad! Confused

Cheers, Tony

Looks like I will have to try and find a couple of months issue after September 1995 and see if there was any fall out.

Regretably a lot of the mags have been boxes so it is unlikely that I will find it in the short term.
Found it interesting so many faults were discovered.

Laurie .Have close  to 600  mags starting from 1948 Outdoors and plus over 120 hard covers.
Around 60 to 70 catalogues of various types.

I believe the add to be Rob Gadens. (advertising is planned months ahead in most magazines)
The sale to Halco would have probably stopped any further adds by Rob.

I believe everything in the era was molded. With RMG Lures and the model names are engraved in the molding.

Heck guys it was an add in a magazine in 1995, 20 years ago
Some one once said to get the best results from an add be it of any kind, you either have to have a very clever or good add or the very worst add either will obtain the best results.
Shit this one is still drawing attention 20 years later
Well done Great Add
Cheers KImo

The ad is not a good ad at all,it's a con .I can see why so many people have no time for RMG.Don't get me started about the sparkling new  timber RMG's that popped up mid 2000's with signatures on them.Peter Newell designed the scorpion end of story.
