These lures are a kind of Buzz Bait for Toman (Snakehead) fish. The secret to using them is to cast them near shore or cover then wind them constantly back to the boat. According to my last fishing guide, us Aussies make lousy Toman fisherman as we insist on stopping the lure to twitch and manipulate it.

These one's are hand made in Thailand and can be used with or without the Buzz Bait blade. I intend trying some for Bass and see what happens.

This lure is called "Top Water Big Predator"

This lure is called "Top Water Frog Danger"

I love these lures you're kindly sharing Paul, I know so little about lures from the Asian region - please keep them coming!

Is it a slow wind or a fast burn they use with these? Wouldn't mind throwing one of them at Barra!

Cheers, Tony

Tony they do vary the speed a little bit but I'd have to say it is consistent and often mid speed. The Toman are ambush predators and just fly out from their holding position and smash what they are after. If you hang a lure on something over the water they will leap into the air and take it, but it must be moving. I've only fished for Toman four or five times and often I was casting to fish I could see along the margins only to have the lure whacked by a fish I did not see.

Thanks Paul, they sound like an exciting species to target, if only I'd known about them when I was in Thailand almost 20 years ago on my way to backpack in Europe Tongue Looks like a return trip might be in order someday!

Bulldust Tony, I recon knowing would not have made a difference to your trip as I think you were interested in other game thenLOLLOL

Do these things float? (It's the Aussie angler in me thinking of the stop and burn retreiveLOL) I recon they would work a treat on Bass and Eastern cod. The Clarence system is one place the buzzbaits seem to work well. If they float I can see them working well by casting up from a rock a meter or so, letting it float to the rock then burning it away for a BOOOF!!!   My only concern is the hook exposure.
Alistair.

Some are designed to float and others are weighed down by the propellor, it depends on the body & blade size. They are also used without the blade. Hook exposure can be an issue with the stop & burn approach, when stopped the hooks drop vertically below the lure.

Here's another design from the same maker but I've left the blade detached and it is sitting loose in front of the lure.

This name of this lure is in Thai so I'll have to ask a friend to translate it for me.

Bob the hooks hang very freely and I suspect there'd be a lot of missed strikes.

As for Toga there is a real good chance these would do the trick, but not as snag proof as scum frogs etc.

Having used them in Corroboree Billabong, I can appreciate why, they catch heaps! Me with an average Toga from an afternoon session with the dreaded rubber frogs! Seriously want to go back and do it again!
