    Posted: 03 Jun 2012 at 10:05pm
Hey Fellas,

Of late I have been doing a lot of exploring some new water which hold deep water rock bars and structure which will hold Barra and threadies... After several runs over the areas I have been able to consistently mark good fish and bait on the sounder... These rock bars are anywhere from 5m to 10m below the boat....

This is where I have hit a problem... So far I have spent over 100 bucks buying deep diving trolling lures which include: 120mm 5m and 8m+ RMG Scorpians and 20+ Killa lure River Rats.....

These lures are still at times not making it to where the fish are!!!

So am chasing some suggestions on lures (trolling lures) that will dive 8m-11m???

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

Cheers Nick

Nick,
Have you tried RMG Scorpion Crazy Deep. They work well on Barra & Fingermark up Hinchinbrook.
Cheers,

Nick

Assume you are using braid maybe need to run the lure back further.  Downrigger is your other option.

Or anchor up and drop plastics.
the fish aren't art critics

deep poltergeis-t, 8 m scorpian, deep rapala x rap, and fish them way back. Drive the lures, not the boat.
Sorry, just re read your post, tried that, maybe see if you can get your hands on some manns streatch 30,s.Troll hour before low tide, untill about an hour after the change, that might save you a few meters. Those deep x raps get down there.

Try looping a one ounce ball sinker on to the trace about 1.5 metres above the lure. Doing that over here for snapper gets a 4 metre deep minnow down to 10 or more metres. Trolling at very slow walking speed with about 30 metres of line out, you can still see the lure working through rod tip.
Look at the Illusion lures, Wal gave me some good tips/advice, he has some nice deep running lures.

Hi there,

Have you tried the Dr.Evil, from Classic lures?
It goes down much deeper than the +20 advertised.

Have a good day,

when i want to get lures down on the troll i put my main line through a snapper sinker eye and tie it to a large swivel , then the leader about half a metre shorter then the rod
this works like a large running sinker and cheap down rigger weight as the fish can run without the weight to throw the hooks.. so the lure you like the best can be fished much deeper on a short line
many Jackels LCB can be fished vertical or large blades, and soft plastic

Downriggers are just the ticket. A quality release clip is essential.
Otherwise Verticals are good in holes too small to troll, around drowned timber, etc.

sounds like you need one of my sinking bibbed prototype lures.
