Over the past few months, Gavin Marshall, (OCD Lures), has been carving me a set of prawns.

There are five of these excellent creations in this set now.
They range in size from the Mega Prawn, (260mm body), to the smallest which has a 52 mm body.

All were carved from the same piece of timber which originated from Atherton, FNQ.

I will try to take some better pics of these fantastic lures when I get the good camera

Once again, Thanks Gavin for carving such a beautiful set.

They are lovely!!! HeartClapThumbs UpApprove
I have a concern about Cross Grain versus Lengthwise Grain.
My concern is;
In EXTREME situations the timber may part, especially in the thinner sections.

Is this a FAIR concern, or am I being too anal??? (leave it alone, it's not a joke)

Mal,
They are actually from the root spurs or buttress roots of a red cedar. You can see the fiddleback pattern or compression pattern in the timber and this means you can end up with cross grain and end grain on the same face edge. Timber with the grain running length ways is certainly strongest but this set was made as a display set, so I picked some timber that had a nice grain pattern.
Your concern is warranted if they were to be used.
I ain't touching that last part of you post! I'll leave that to others.LOL
Cheers,

Gavin

Explanation;
Anal Retentive, what SWMBO calls me, when I am being 'unreasonably picky'.

My set was recently updated, with the arrival of another cracker of a lure.
A 180mm prawn carved from the same piece of red cedar as the originals five lures.

Once again, Thank You Gavin.
