Nice one! I've been playing around with a couple of big yabby patterns myself but yet to fish them seriously.

Are they to be fished on a sinking line?

Yeah original idea was to fish them on a sinking line but will also give them a run on the surface. I need to extract my finger and give them a serious swim. Too much fishing…too little timeLOL

Been buying some cranka crabs for a lure fishing trip down the gold coast canals, thought I would also tie a similar size crab pattern on a #2 SL12 to try as well. Looks the goods to me.......:)

Yeah sort of , these are like a marabou deceiver pattern , semperfleye is another name , and I tied them in this colour range to target the Barra as we all know the pink thing goes alright on them . Such a good all round pattern for the bigger fish, they use these on all kinds of mad fish lol . I will be tying some natural darker colours for over Christmas up on the Murray , Hopefully they will do pretty well .

Haven't had much to do with fly fishin since the Cooktown days but still enjoy reading all this stuff. Brings back good memories Big smile.

I was surprised to see on bez post the Barra flies have not changed much, near the same as the one's I was using back then (mid 80's). Took a quick pic of my old fly box with a few goodies. A bit off topic cause I did not tie them, a friend by the name of Gavin Wust tied most of em, a few of you might know Wusty, he worked with Dave Donald in Bluefin Sports at Rockampton many moons ago Smile.

Used to chuck the fly rod in the boat just in case and if I found a school of Barras holed up somewhere in the shallows it would be on for young and old Smile,  no finesse to my style of fly, 40lb Schneider from line to fly, no tippet, fire it in and hang on LOL, probably a bit uncouth Embarrassed for most of you fluff chuckers
but I had a ball.

Keep up the good work fellas, some very nice flies being tied.
