I have just returned from a trip to a lovely spot between Lismore and Casino to visit relatives of my wife. In fact the first time they have met each other. Long story there, but was interesting. Got talking to my wife's 'new' sister's husband . He saw the lure expo jumper and we got talking about lures, he mentioned some lures he bought back in the 80's off an ad in Fishing World...and they had a name written in fine script under the bib...I said 'L White?" he said yeah that's the ones and I got a chance to see them on the way home this arvo.
He did mention that the top one was one of his favourite lures and had caught swags of fish for him. He also mentioned that he had some other lures he bought of another ad..." Do you know a guy called Eric Moller??" I replied that I wish I had known him, as he had passed away and his lures are now quite collectable. He said I know they are in a box in this shed somewhere, never been used as I cancelled the trip to the cape they were for. We were digging in a few tackle boxes but didn't strike gold, but unearthed lots of Killalures, moulded Eliots and a few nice homebuilds and did find another of Lionels I left them with him under strict instructions to put them on the wall in the den. What dates do you reckon Lionel?? |

Thank you Brad for showing us these old 'Lionel' lures so we could see how good they were then and compare with the excellent lures that Lionel is still making today,

I didn't snaffle them Darren, they are still with the owner.
Lionel, I did comment to him that the top one was similar to the one I have from your Nambour days. He was fairly certain they all came from Townsville, He was living in Mt Isa at the time, from what he remembers they were about $15 ea + postage. Maybe you still had a couple of Nambour lures hanging around the shed. Glad they bring back some memories Brad |

I use to sell my lures from Nambour to Cairns but my father lived in Townsville and supplied the local tackle shops that was when I was making 50 lures a day 4 days a week, testing Friday and fishing the next 2 days.
