Mother and daughter received today( From Captain Cranky in a trade) Orvis 50a with / note manual pick-up, and Orvis
100S.
Similar to Mitchell Salt water 499 the Big Boy reel for surf rods. I was not aware that the manual pick was used elsewhere, I have only ever seen it on the early Saltwater Mitchell and introduce on other reels possibly 20 years later. Several very well made quality reels from Italy with solid metal fittings, from the late 60's early 70's. Smallish in size, and suited to trout fish. Both left hand wind Orvis I think it is the same company that took over South Bend reels when it may have got into some financial difficulty. Rivermandave may have more info on that. Regards John
