Interested to know what Summer footwear you Darwin and FNQ guys wear when mainly boat based trolling estuary systems and occasional land based flick - no bluewater.
  • Thongs would see serious sunburn,
  • joggers/runners - hot and sweaty especially if damp/wet
  • Sandals or crocs with sox
  • Work boots (redback, blundstone)
  • or ???

Serious question.... thanks

Gary, thongs for ali floors, barefoot for carpet. Use blockout everywhere, including tops of feet.

Wadey, when I do head north, such as Port Douglas last October I used these. More enclosed than sandals but still breath, protect the foot better but can wear in water and drain if needed (like at the ramp).

Hi Wadey
When estuary fishing in the boat, we use decent socks that you can tick your long pants into, explorers or similar. Saves sunburn, midges and hot decks without sweaty shoes or wetsuit boots etc.
Cheers Steve

add some sunscreen if you must.
If you need frotective foot wear, add a pair of double pluggers.

Yep, fair dinkum. Have never worn footwear on my boat.
land based can be different, depends where you are fishing. If its culverts, thongs.
If its arond wharfs, thongs.
Rocky headlands around darwin, thongs. Buffalo creek or similar.....thongs.
If im doing some serious walking, down creeks, barefoot, then thongs when I get out of the water. Bush bashing to get to a land based spot, GP boots.

When I go north I usually wear joggers in a boat or wharf or the rocky headlands. If bush bashing I like work boots. I just like my feet being protected against hooks, gaffs, spines, teeth ect.

I've tried a few different varieties of 'wet' shoes but the only type I use now are the ol' faithful Dunlop Volleys.  They have excellent grip for walking over slippery rocks while the canvas outer and rubber sole protects your feet from sharp oyster rocks.  I'll wear them all day in the boat for sun protection and even though they're wet, my feet don't seem to get sweaty and they don't smell.  Both most importantly, they're cheap and they last for a long time.
