picked up a little Bakelite alvey yesterday with a few bamboo and cane rods...was just wondering the value on this little reel it says model 30c1 on back ...havnt seen one this small around ..its in great condition...any help appreciated

Hi,
Thanks for posting photo. Nice find, the 30C1 and the 30 A1 (A1 had no drag) are the smallest reels Alvey made and came out in the late 60's. Not a common reel to find in Australia. I believe quite a few of these made there way to USA and Canada where they were popular for Salmon fishing. They came with and without a line guide The value is always what someone is prepared to pay but as a guide around $50-75. David |

the 30C1's were /are definitely the coolest ,I think Alveys were still molding the odd batch of 30A1'S in black Bakelite when I left there in 2004.theres a lot of work in that 30C1 its odd that they aren't worth more

Hi puglee,
They were worth a lot more a couple of years back but prices on all old reels have dropped substantially. Collectors having acquired enough or just not the money around anymore. Of course if they were in the box then the value would be much higher. Having said this the rarest of reels say in the top 10 or 20 still command high values, but not what they would of a few years back. David |
