I'm about to purchase a bench sander, nothing over the top just a small cheap one for lure shaping, can anyone recommend anything?

I have been impressed by the quality of Aldi's gear lately, but they don't always come up. Ozito (usually from Bunnings) are pretty good at a low price.

Warren, I picked up a 6" disc/4" Belt combo off an ebay store for around $150 delivered, it's been giving good service over a few years now, might be worth a look on there.

I bought an ozito belt sander, then flipped it over to run upside down. It's fine like that for light/small stuff but I do need to clamp it some way if doing big hardwood stuff.

Generally Ozito gear has a 3yr warranty, I need to replace my gmc belt sander which the bearing have gone in and will be going an Ozito

G'day Samurai

I have a belt sander & disc sander combo, which I only use the disk sander on & its great, belt sander was okay but a bit small. I purchased a belt sander attachment that can be used on your bench grinder, I have found that to be exceptional, nice big flat bed, plenty of grunt, had it for a squillion years & suitable for most bench grinders if you have one. I'll check on the name of both units & get back to you, cheers Balls.

Ive got a ryobi combo, the disk is pretty useless, as it takes glue on( sticky tape) discs, and the heat stuffs the glue, but the belt is a beauty, and has shaped hundreds of lures.

G'day Samurai

2" Belt & 6" disk sander combo is an Abbott & Ashby, no dramas at all with the disks, allows consistent sanding down to pattern/template lines at 90 degrees to the face edge.

6" belt sander attachment to a 6" bench grinder is a TOOLMAC, model 74-533301CHE, had & used both forever without a drama, sorry can't remember the cost, purchased in Newcastle at New Lambton tool centre?? off memory.

The only thing I would suggest is assess what you want to use the belt sander for & look at the size of the flat bed located in the middle of the bed, really small flat beds may not suit everyones lure making needs,I use it to make some pretty big blue water lures, maybe some others can suggest how they have found their units to perform for what they make, cheers Balls.
