Had an unusual piece of timber laying about, was bored, so made this.
Timber was similar to balsa, a little harder, and a little heavier, fluffed up with heavysanding, and gave it 4 coats of filler, still see the grain.(shaped yesterday arvo, 2 coats last night) No idea what the timber is., any way made this |

Dave, 2 timbers come to mind when you describe it as you have,
1 is Kavalau (some times called New Guinea Basswood), comes from the Sth Pacific region, lovely to work but like you mention, almost no decernable grain, a uniform white colour. Takes some effort to get the finish right. I usually give it a couple of good coats of clear coat to make it settle down and stop fluffing. The other is Obeche which come from Africa. Has a definate grain but sands beautifully usually. and that's a nice Poddy, the Jew men down here would love to chuck that off a breakwall. |
