In economic terms it is quite a silly decision to commission a new boat build (second hand is so much cheaper) but I have just done that. I have had Offshore Marine Master at Caloundra build me a 5.3m (5.6m overall) centre cab. The intention is that the boat be large enough for closer saltwater work but not be too large to go in the freshwater after impoundment bass and trout. I went a bit overboard on the electronics and installed a Hummingbird Onix 10 Cross Touch head unit coupled to a Hummingbird 360 transducer. In theory I can have a normal sounder, a Chirp Sounder and Side Image combined with the 360 image. The 360 transducer casts a sonar circle around the boat detecting fish and obstacles that swim in or occur within a predetermined circle around the boat. I am not sure if it all works but over the next little while I hope to find out. Regards, Ken.

Very nice. Outside to Browns to chase tuna/marlin/kings etc will be great in it I am sure. Might be a bit big for the impoundment but it is very hard to get an allrounder which is why I have been loath to go away from 2  boats as I love my little 4mt Bass Elite for sneaking through the sticks and close bank trolling.

What size minnkota did you go? I like the idea of using them as an location lock over structure (Snapper or Kings) when lure fishing but wonder how well they would perform in even a reasonable current off shore.

Happy timesClap

Wow, that is one very nice boat.  A bit flasher than the average tinny!

The second hand boat buying can be a bit of a false economy.  I looked around, for months, to buy a second hand 4.9m bowrider, either Quintrex Freedom Sport or Stacer Easy Rider.  Most of the Easy Rider's were about 10 years old, with 60-70hp two stroke motors, for about $20,000. To change the motor to a 70hp four stroke, would have cost around $10,000.  I ended up buying a new 4.89 Stacer Easy Rider, with 70hp Suzuki 4 stroke plus extras for under $30,000.

Definitely worth looking at the benefits of a new boat.

What motor have you got on the back, Ken?

Cheers

Travers

Very nice setup.
A compromise will never be perfect for everything. But I reckon couple that with a kayak and all your bases are pretty well covered.

Thanks for your comments. I am very pleased with it. I put an 80lb/24 volt Minn Kota on the boat and it seems to have enough power to hold the boat in position even in quite windy conditions. I went for a 115hp motor which is enough to allow the boat to cruise three up in the low 20s and go flat out around 33 knots. No speedster but enough for fishing and with the same torque as the 140hp. I have a Hobie Outback and a small Quintrex Explorer so between them all I hope to have it pretty well covered. Ken.
