20 to 30 years ago this was a very good lure for Tigerfish. Most probably they are still catching them on these type of lure.

Nice lure Barry
You would have to use lures made out of steel just to handle the strikes from those massive teeth.
Hate to think what they would do to a timber lure.

Cheers

Had a 2 kg tailor bite my big toe while surf fishing one morning - blood spurted out everywhere. At least I kept that toe but not with those daggers on a tigerfish.

Wondered if those Spoons were made fore something else to begin with. You have holes in both ends, but the hook are mounted in the smaler front end. Just a thoughtErmm

I've seen a photo of the Zambezi lure carrying the big single plus a treble ringed in to the hole at the wide end.  The spoons (made on the "fly spoon" principle) were apparently 4" - 6" long!Shocked

I believe these spoons originated from the former Salisbury, Rhodesia (Now Harare, Zimbabwe).

I think the main purpose of the second hole was so that the large flying single could be lightly wired into an in-line position, but could then break away once a tiger was hooked, so it couldn't use the spoon body for leverage.

This same kind of break-away rigging was used on many Salmon and Mahseer spoons too.
