It has an unusual sliding hook setup. There is a long slot along the length of the body with the hook attached by a specially shaped piece of metal. I'm guessing it's supposed stop fish dislodging it when jumping or shaking their heads.
Does anyone have any information regarding this lure? It has the following writing on it: Knowles Automatic Striker Pat Feb 27 '06 No 5 Pat Jul 28 '06 Jun 18 '18 |

I've only had it a few years. I think it was in a beautiful old cane creel I bought somewhere. (My memory is going, must be getting old).
There were some old cork handlines and bits and pieces as well as some other spoons and spinners. |

From what I've been able to find off google, Knowles was a German manufacturer, the patent is from 1906 and was still being sold into the 1920's. It came in six sizes.

Thank you very much Tony!
The hook does sit snugly in that position! Any sort strike from a fish and the hook automatically slides free (hence the name). It is a very impressive piece of design and from my job I know how fiddly that would have been to perfect. The big question is = does it work? |
