Hey guys,

Being fairly new to this bass fishing mularky I was wondering when you bass fishos stop fishing for wild river bass in nsw?

I'll be close to some fishing spots over Easter but I'm not sure if it's worth the trouble of taking and launching the yak. It will be in the upper reaches of the river system. I've caught bass there before but haven't tried this late in the year.

Any lure suggestions for chasing Autumn bass would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the help guys.

Cheers,

Ces.

Not sure on nsw, but closed season here no longer includes all river...only below tidal water...above tidal still allows fishing, i still like to give them a rest, but since i live over 200ks from the tidal area occasionally fish throughout season and find that some of the bigger bass in upper reaches can be found, particulary on surface early morning.
good luck.

Hey mate
Technically there is no longer a closed season on bass in NSW.  It's just a no take season. (Closed season impossible to enforce anyway, since most they overlap with something else you might be fishing for.)
The no take season starts May 1 I think.
Like Nicho said - it's good to give them a rest.  Especially fish that are spawning or schooling up and making their way down.
I think if you are a long way up and away from the spawning grounds in the middle of April, and there are still bass around, they are probably not making the run this season anyway and it wouldn't hurt to have a bit of a flick around.
If you come across schooling fish that look in spawning condition - just don't flog the school and move on.
The bigger worry for bass at this time of year is people coming across a school of them down toward the estuary, while fishing for other species like bream, and interrupting activities down there.
That's my personal opinions.  But anyway I say if you feel like you're not doing anything wrong, and you're not doing anything illegal, do as you like!

Thanks guys. The weir up river from my launch point has no fish ladder so I'll be as far up as they can get. I only practice catch and release (crushed barbs) as I don't really like eating seafood.

So weather depending, it looks like I might give it a go. Thanks again guys.

Not all bass move down stream to spawn, I have caught then over 200 ks upstream with unhindered access downstream (no weirs ect). They stay up and gain a lot of condition and would most probably spawn the next year.
Martin-

you don't havta be pretty to fish

So I ended up heading out for two afternoon sessions. The morning one's were a bit hard to face over the long weekend Wink

Doughnut the first day (a few hits) and picked up two off the top the second day, including a PB. I stress the P in that. Had a great time and will now fish later in the year than ever before.

Thanks guys.

Ces.
