Hey Pete,
I hear you. If Eucumbene was a stopover for trout coming from the ocean then maybe we'd have a chance of catching one. It's nice to dream Cheers, Danny. |

Hey Per, Yes that one looked like a salmon. I think the Gaula river may have "sea trout" as well? As far as I know sea trout are Browns that move from salt to spawn in fresh (anadromous). Steelhead are the equivalent in the Rainbow trout form I think? Maybe Norway has a different meaning for sea trout. Cheers, Danny. |

Great video, those fish made swimming in that fast water look so effortless, and that fly fisher made casting look so easy - not like my fumbling attempts.

Yes Danny Gaula has Sea-trouts aswell (thy call them : SJØØRET) Biggest caught there last year was 6kg. Here in Denmark: Brown-trouts stay in the Streams, and is off cource brown with red over white dots. Thy dont become very big here. Brown trouts at 50cm. is quite rare Sea-trout, Brown-trout, and Lake-trouts are the same Fish. Sea-trouts are Brown-trouts that goes to the Fjods/saltwater about 2 yers off age. Then returns to the Streams as shiny Fish. Some in Winter time as the Salt level is higher. Some are going all the way to the Ocean and returns first time as spawners. Then thy can be pretty big. (caught years ago a nice big first spawner 83cm. 7,0kg) When the Sea-trouts have staid in the Stream getting ready to spawn thy get dark, and can even get some red dots. It is Sea-trouts i am catching in my little local Stream Lake trouts are Brown trouts that lives all thier lifes in a fresh water lakes. Thy spawn in streams/creeks to the Lakes and are shiny as Sea-trouts. When thy spawn thy are getting dark aswell Biggest caught here in DK. is about 9kg. Reports clame there have have been caught some over 10kg. in nets in a nearby Lake i fish. I have only caught up to 4kg. many years ago Knaek & Break Per

Hey Per,
Thanks for the all the fantastic information. 83 centimetres is an incredible trout. You are very lucky to have a local stream with sea trout in it. I am jealous. The surrounding country you are in when fishing your stream is beautiful too. Cheers, Danny. |
