hmm.
not sure how to add a link. anyway, the product is "Glisten PC High Performance Clear Coat". it's write-up is how they tested it in Sydney, one of the planet's most demanding UV environments on earth. I was actually looking at one of their other products. |

"Glisten PC High Performance Clear Coat"-- ''Por15'' and ''Diamond Kote'' are all ''moisture cure'' lacquers -ie, once opened they are activated by the moisture in the air. They are extremely tough and clear, but problematic in that when you open the can air/moisture enters and starts the curing process and after opening a few times eventually you will find a solid mass of lacquer (if you can open it). Also, I think you need to have a good extractor system etc as the solvent is pretty toxic . There are ways around this but in the end all become extremely messy and $$$. If we could get past the curing issue and were able to use small amounts, I think this is close to the ideal clear for lures. I have only used "Por 15" and ''Diamond Kote'', they are all expensive, I have another one here (sample) which is about $250 / pint, it's supposed to be the best (definitely the most expensive) , I only used it once and it stripped all the paint off. i'm going to try the U-POL #1 Clear once the weather warms up. spring is getting close, but, we just got another dump of snow last night. I can get the aerosol, but, i'm only using it outside as it has some very harmful ingredients. wear a proper mask, eye-protection(very bad to get into eyes), and even some paint coveralls probably(they say to throw away any clothing that comes into contact with it).

If your dipping I can't help but, painting the clear on, I use this.A hose clamp pre-drilled then just self tap a screw thru the tin, works a treat.Sorry, also place some Gladwrap under the lid.The lid never comes off and you can use as much or as little as you need.

Afternoon Everyone,
Noobie question As I am just starting out with painting lures, was wondering if there is much of a better finish if I air brush the clear coat as opposed to straight out of an aerosol can, which is all I have ever done when making lures just for my own use. I would think it gets a better result but its not the first, nor definitely the last dumb question I will ever post. Thanks in advance |

no question is a dumb question. we are all learning.
I have found that clear out of a spray-can, tends to leave a slightly pebbled finish. and it's not even really noticeable to the eye, except when you compare it to, say, one done in e-tex. I did have one recently that turned out really well with the UPOL spray, but tonight I just added a good layer of e-tex on top. it's hard to beat that "clear-water" look, like you could just dip your finger into it. the spray was fine, definitely good enough for protection and fishable. but it doesn't give that same deep look as e-tex brushed on. |

sorry, I just re-read and noticed you said "air" brush. I read it as brushing on the clear. I will slowly step back into the bushes and let someone with that knowledge answer.
