Hello everyone,

New to lure making and I've been eyeing off some balsa wood dowel at Bunnings to start my project.

Just wondering what tools are best for carving the timber (hand tools or electric dremel) and where do you buy your hook/eye mounts from? Can't find anything in Australia from my Google searches.

All advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
Josh

Maranti is a good lure timber...
Belt/ bench sander is a handy tool..El cheapo band saw helps too...

Or...

I started cutting my blanks years back with a coping saw in a vice and drilling with a hand drill...

Much easier with power tools.

Ah ok, I'll see if I can find some. Do you recommend round or square stock to start with?

I'm only going to make small lures 50-100mm to start with

Square or rectangular profile timber is much easier to cut bib slots into...mark centrelines of lure body...and mark drill holes for eyelets.
