Well myself and 2 mates have settled into the holiday house for the next 2 weeks. A visit to Ray Murphy (with more to come), a catch up with Hooknose yesterday.

Today we hit the water with the weather forecast of a northerly change around mid afternoon. That chane came through at about 10 am. At least we managed some good fish.

I scored a 106 cm queenfish on a C.R.A.F.T. minnow - thanks Roy.

And a 93 cm giant trevally on a Vicious Fishes stick bait - thanks Stephen

Rod scored a doggy mackerel and a small bonito on one of his metal slugs.
Sandy got a 110 cm giant trevally on his home made popper on it's first ever cast. He also got a 80 cm mack tuna on the same metal slug that caught Rod's fish.
Sorry no photos of these as they were in Rod's boat.

Thanks for the BBQ this evening Hooknose - was a top mealClap

Another trip out again today. This time I had Hooknose in my boat with me.
The wind had dropped a little but as predicted had stepped up around mid morning again.
I scored a nice mack tuna on a Wal Muffett made Illusion Lure Wedgetail and another on a Cam Cupitt made Headland Lures stick bait. I had the wire snap while lifting a nice spotty mackerel into the boat using a Mencho lure (metal fatigue, should have replaced the 27 pound single strand wire trace) but landed a nice doggy mackerel on another Mencho lure.
Hooknose scored a metre long longtail tuna using a jointed Ray Murphy lure.

The Wedgetail caught tuna

The stick bait caught tuna

the Mencho caught mackerel

Hooknose's longtail on the Murphy lure

The other boat scored a very small mack tuna and a 95 cm spotty mackerel.

Hey Ed. The queening was 105 cm, filleted and skinned and bagged. These queenies if bles on capture and treated right are great eating. I’ll rate them over a barra anyday.

Rest day today, winds are too high so we are catching up on some domestic stuff with maybe a barra fish this evening. Bought a new VHF radio as the screen went black on mine, will have to fit that later. A visit to Ray Murphy later this arvo went we pick up Rod’s boat trailer from a welder as a small crack had developed in his draw bar.

Some of the lures Sandy made for this trip - usually a trout fisho frequenting Khancoban. Not bad for his first ever lures made - smart ass.

Sandy caught his giant trevally on the popper second from the top.

We tried the Firzroy River today- weather too windy to hit the reef. Well nothing on lures for all of us but a heap of catamundi, small grunter and a little blue salmon on bait

Today was once again too windy so we hit a local creek, until we were driven home by a storm- nothing caught on lures and only a couple of legal fish caught by others on bait.

A lay day today to catch up on some domestic duties and maintenance on some gear. The others went back to the creek to try their luck again. Weather seems to be getting better so hopefully tomorrow we are back on to the reefs and islands

A good enough morning to head out today. I scored 3 good spotty mackerel 2 on a Ray Murphy lure and one on a Wal Muffett Illusion Lure. I then went chasing giant trevally bypassing schools of fish. No GTs and should have stayed playing with the mackerel and schools of tuna. Should be going out again tomorrow.

The Ray Murphy lure

Fishing today with Stephen Richardson. We scored nothing despite using all the lures in the attached photo until we got a call from Rod Whyte fishing with Sandy in Rod's boat. They had bagged out on the spotty mackerel and were chasing them on the 5 weight fly rod for fun. Rod scored and released another 10 spotties and Sandy released another 5. Stephen Richardson and I scored 15 spotties (5 under the limit) and a doggy mackerel before we left them biting to come home. All of my spotties were on a metal slug and my doggy was on a Wal Muffett Illusion Lure. Rod and Sandy used his RS Lures- both timber and metal slugs, vibes and squid over jig heads.

All of the lures I sed today

The esky of spotties

This doggy mackerel took a large Illusion Lure - Wedgetail

Fishing again today, me in my boat and Sandy with Rod in his boat. We bagged out on spotty mackeral again and I got a nice mack tuna. Today was all about me mucking around and having fun with it. I through back quite a few undersized fish, so I took off a hook point on a metal slug to help with a faster release. But I did get 3 on timber lures.

Spotties on a Mark A Lure

Spotty on a Cam Cuppitt Headland Lure
