I'll post up fishing when I can.

On my trip south I fished Lake Tinaroo with Bill Cara for a couple of days. I scored 2 catfish - re-enforcing Cam Cupitt's name of Captain Catfish that he monikered me with. Bill scored a very fat 75 cm barra on a large soft plastic swim bait and a freshwater mussel . On the second day we scooped up in the landing net a very bloated but still alive 110 cm barra. He punctured it's air bladder and tried to swim it, but it still was bloated. We then punctured it's gut cavity on the underneath and immediately the air escaped. Swam it by the boat again until it kicked and we saw it slowly swim down, but this time she stayed down.

Bill's barra and mussel

The rescued barra before puncturing it's air bladder

Sadly no Tony, it sank like a rock. Must have been too exhausted after the big fight it gave while reeling it in

Well I haven’t fished much on this trip. A few casts here and there but nothing to intensive. I really did need my boat or my kayak for a proper fish. I was hoping to hit Fingal Heads and Tamba but ran out of time by the time I caught up with most of the people I wanted to see. I have now a day or two at Innisfail to try to get a fish in but the weather doesn’t seem too good with the wind and rain.

Stayed with Cam Cupitt for a couple of nights. We went up to one of his mates place and on the way there we spotted a little croc in a little creek. A stop for a look and it disappeared but a few flicks saw a couple of missed strikes and one little sooty grunter.

We had a walk up the creek at 'Chonk's" place. A couple of more missed strikes by sooties and jungle perch but no hook ups. The section of creek we went up had silted up with many deeper holes full of sand.

Chonk's house. The recent fires came with 4 metres of the back door burning much of the jungle's undergrowth.

A drive back home and it was pouring rain from Innisfail to Mount Carbine. I was starting to think the road was going to be cut off but the rivers were still running at normal levels. Talking to Wal back in Cooktown and there was only 45 mm of rainfall. Does not look like we are going to get a good wet season this year.
