At this years lure expo I was told that a lure I had was not a Edward’s unsigned lure because the wire was too thin. Today at Chris Sinclair’s place he had a partially “bitten” lure with the same 1 mm stainless steel wire. Anybody else has a Norm Edward’s with 1 mm wire. I was told that mine was a very good copy but the wrong wire.

I was shown photos with a similar post I put up on a lure identification site on Facebook of 3 different wire sizes used on Norm Edwards lures at .7. , .9 and 1.2 mm wires all on similar sizes lures. I am 100% certain now that my lure is an Edwards ‘ lure, now to find it again because I haven’t seen it since the lure expo

I just looked at the few I have here and they seem the same size Martin.

I wouldn't be too quick to form an opinion based purely on the wire thickness.  In my experience many hand carved lure makers have tended to at least occasionally use whatever is lying around at some stage during their career, especially when supplies are out,  or maybe trying something new.

Cheers, Tony

For the love of Fishing Lures.

That had always been my belief as well Tony but I had lost out a sale because of this wire and somebody’s belief that it wasn’t an Edwards ‘

Like I said on FB mate, you use what's available, I prefer 80lb Mason soft SS, but have been known to use SS Mig welding wire if unavailable.
People reckon Eric Moller never used SS wire, but they're incorrect, he used it for special requests like for Vic McCristal on occasions.

Yep a lot of lure makers have told me they use what they can. I’ll such a cut and dried “NO” that it wasn’t an Edwards without that consideration.                                       I was also told that Eric Moller never painted black lures, but a friend of his that made poppers used to get Eric to Paint lures black for him. I met this bloke at a Sunday market and he confirmed two black chin minnows of mine as Eric’s
